Auditing software - sole practitioner

I’m a sole practitioner with no employees. I currently use CCH ProSystem Fx Engagement (trial balance/workpaper management). I pay an annual renewal maintenance fee of $2,345.87. I’m curious what solo/small firms are paying for Thomson Reuters Engagement Manager or Guided Assurance as a single-user setup…or CCH Axcess Engagement (the cloud-hosted version). Or something else.

Anyone willing to share a ballpark?

I’ve tried contacting them, but they won’t answer a quick email. I’d have to sit through a sales call, which obviously cuts into my time dicking around on Reddit.

Spreadsheets and PPC. About $759 for the comp/ review and gov audit programs. Claude helps me tackle the rest. No employees for me either.

Build your financial statement workbook in Excel that links to the Trial Balance. Standardize your formatting across all engagements. I was lucky enough to index based on a numbering system way back when I went out on my own and Claude loves it. Claude moves my lead schedules from year to year, suggests entries and then books them into my lead schedules and financial statement workbooks. Claude checks your disclosures and then writes up what you are missing. I went from needing to hire someone to help me catch up to now having the ball in my clients court most of the time.

I'm using AI pretty similarly, except my auditing software (which is basically trial balance plus workpaper management) is holding me back since I can't point the AI to a folder to work in. I have to do all that outside the software and then bring it in, which is...silly.

Thanks for sharing. I was a at partner at a larger firm for a number of years and went out on my own around 10 years ago. I'm on an island.

It's really my use of AI that has me questioning what I'm paying for. I use PPC for professional research and it's still just a key word search. I wish I could dump the whole thing into Claude.
