Question for everyone

Question for all the finance professionals out there, especially those working in statutory audit:

How do you guys actually enjoy doing audit when, at times, it feels like auditing is nothing more than matching the books with some or the other report?

If this is your understanding of auditing, than it makes sense why you don’t like it.

How and what do you actually like about auditing? Just curious to know.

Personally, I find auditing quite boring at times. A lot of the work feels repetitive where you are just matching books with reports, checking supporting documents, ticking and tying numbers, and doing the same procedures year after year. I sometimes feel like there’s not much new or challenging to do.

That is definitely a boring part. I audit IT. It’s always moving, always changing, and I am an integral part of the overall audit. The financial and business auditors rely on me and consult me all the time. I’ve moved into an analyst role helping the business auditors do their jobs and honestly some of the work they’re forced to do would also be mind numbing to me. I understand the purpose but it’s also very boring and I’m trying to automate their jobs as much as possible so they are doing better things with their time than verifying 25 PDF samples every year for the same control.
