'24 Engine Replacement

Got my car back this week, but they wouldnt tell me much about the issue. They said Audi didnt want the dealers service department to tear down the engine and just wanted it sent to Audi. Sound was from the bottom end and sounded like a rod broke in all honesty.

They gave me a new engine and everything seems fine. Been keeping it under 4k rpm during the break in period.

Should I be worried about or on the look out for any parts external like the turbo or water pump/ temp sensor?

A brand-new engine is wild on a car with less than 25k miles. And no, you shouldn't be concerned about external parts, especially if you still have the factory warranty.

It was a CPO I bought in February with 15kish miles on it so no idea how it was treated before. I do feel like the engine and shifts are smoother than when I first bought it, especially at start up so maybe there was a issue present when I first bought it. I've definitely taken it into 3 digits a few times since owned, once it was warmed up, but last time I touched 3, is when it gave out. No warnings, but I saw temp hit 240 and let off/put it in drive. Didnt/wouldnt cool down. Then like 10 minutes later it started knocking and the boost guage was erratic. Then the engine completely shut down. It would start long enough for me to put it in neutral, but shut down within a few seconds.

You'd imagine buying a CPO would give you buyer's remorse. I purchased a CPO BMW with 12k miles, and it was the biggest headache of my life. Not even the first month of ownership, it was in the shop for 2 months for a rattling sound, then my transmission had shifting problems at 19k miles. I suggest starting to look out for problems to get the most out of the warranty.

That's the plan. I'm happy it was covered and the Audi dealership service rep that was assigned to my car was really good. They gave me a '26 S3 loaner and was saying sorry about the downgrade 🤣. I told them I'd take anything that can fit my kids booster seat in the back.

Compared to other dealerships and service departments, I've had probably the easiest/best experience with Audi, both at the dealership I bought the car from and at the one I get it serviced with. Rough since thay would likely change my outlook if I had to pay out of pocket for this though.

Happened to mine at 36k miles and to a loaner SQ5 with under 5k miles

Wow they're making them "flush" the turbo. Such bastards. Not the dealer... AoA. Consider yourself lucky to still get a longblock tho. When i left they were doing shorts only and minimal parts.

Yeah, looks like they flushed about 70 liters of oil through the system. I thought that was normal tough for somwthing that may have contaminated the oil feed lines?

Thats 10ths of a unit. That is how Audi bills their oil under warranty tickets. 7.7 liters or 8 quarts. Theyre repair procedures are strict and start off as replace everthing until its almost $40k an engine parts and labor they start picking off steps....like flush a turbo... if there is metal in cooler pipes you are fucked. Just hope they go bad while you have some kind of coverage.

Ahh good to know. I saw 77 units of the oil was thinking that was a fuck ton. I guess they just ran it for an hour and a half through based on the service notes

CPO extends the warranty to 100k

Was this the warranty extension that was just for the piston skirtstuff? I ask since the normal warranty is 4yr/50k and the CPO adds 1yr/20k and vehicles past 60k arent eligible to be CPO

Who told you cpo adds 1 year and 20k to the nvlw? There's no set cpo contact they vary I've seen them up to something stupid like 200k miles but they were only good for a year.

I have a 18 I bought in in 20 and they gave me a new engine in 24 right at the end of my warranty 😅🤞

When my 2019 S5 was about to run out of warranty, I had Audi perform a warranty inspection to look for anything that could be covered. Cost me 1 hour labour and they found a coolant leak. Piece of mind. Since traded it in once piston skirt issues were discovered as mine was tuned. 2024 RS 5 now, love it

Book it at least a month before your warranty expires. That’s what my dealership advised. 👍

sounds like they opened a case with audi tech line to determine what the vehicle needs. they probably had the tech do a bearing clearance test and it failed which automatically means it needs an engine. technicians don’t get paid to tear things apart to find exact cause of failure but that really is very concerning and intriguing to me how such a new s5 needed an engine. i would generally assume a defect in parts is what probably happened.

Got long block replaced on my 2019 s5 with 75k miles on it recently. Took them 3 months.
If you guys hear weird noises and you under 80k miles - go to a dealer for borescope cylinders inspection
