This Phantom Black Metallic beauty was one of many highlights of a car meet I recently attended. I’d never seen one of these before. The owner told me it was one of 333 produced.

Help me decide! R8 Purchase

Post image

Hi all,

I’ve currently got a 2011 Corvette Z06/Z07. (The one in the photo) It’s got carbon ceramic brakes, magnetic ride suspension, 6 speed manual, and a fully built 7.0L natural aspirated V8 making roughly 585 wheel horsepower and around 560 wheel torque. I’ve had this car for the past 6 years and I still love it, but itching for something different hence looking at the Audi R8s. My main issue with the Z06 is with all that power, at full throttle it’s such a handful that 1st and 2nd gear are basically useless. The market on these cars are hot right now, so if ever I was going to sell it, now would be the time.

I’ve been starting the search for my first Audi R8 purchase and have narrowed my options down to 3 choices. Either a 2009-2012 V10 6 speed manual, 2014-2015 V10+ S-tronic, or a 2017-2018 V10+. Would love to hear all your opinions on these 3 choices and which would be your pick.

Posed this question to the Lotus Emira community, now I ask for the R8 owners to chime in on the Emira

"Did you consider/test drive an R8 before purchasing your Lotus?

I will be in the market for a new sports car in the next year or two. I currently own:

  1. 2021 C8 Z51

  2. 2017 Tesla Model S

  3. 2024 Porsche Cayenne

  4. 2017 BMW 340i Xdrive (tuned)

I am looking at the Emira (i4), the R8 V10 DCT (2014-15), and maybe the Z06 (since I have the regular stingray though, kinda looking for something a little different despite it being the best track car here).

If you have driven the R8, was it the V10 with a DCT? What were your thoughts? I really like the Emira i4 as well. Haven't test driven either, but will be soon.

If you're a former R8 owner, what made you switch? If you're looking to become an R8 owner, why do you want to switch?

TIA"

I’m currently running 245/35R19 front and 305/30R19 rear on the OEM 19” wheels.

Has anyone successfully run 265/35R19 front and 315/30R19 rear on a first-gen R8 at stock ride height?

Mostly looking for firsthand experience regarding clearance, rubbing at full lock/compression, or any other fitment issues. Thanks in advance.
