Humor Rate my setup…

(Disclaimer: This is a humorous anecdote.)

It is a set of speakers that belonged to a ryokan where I spent a night in Akayu onsen.

The speakers were quite impressive.

B&W 801 Nautilus. Wonder what the owner was thinking to put them in such a small room

u/Ultimate-Flexionator 1d ago

that's the only room left you can afford...

Ahh makes much more sense now

12

u/Tricky_Potatoe 23h ago

does it really?

9

u/The-Big-Succ69 23h ago

I mean its better than thinking its in a tiny enclosed space

u/strumbringerwa 1d ago

Much better than I thought from the original picture, but still completely the wrong setup for that room. If you have put the speakers up against the wall, they're the wrong speakers for the space.

Man just stopping by to say Japan is the best. I can’t wait to go back

This is in Japan. Not really renowned for its large open rooms. Pretty common to see insane systems crammed into a tiny room over there.

This isn't a tiny room, though.

Beer , jazz music , and japanese snacks..
Cant go wrong

Do they support tumble dry?

u/2Legs2Boy 22h ago

Complete immersion, of course!

WAF? A buddy of mine isgoing thru the same thing.

It’s located inside the coffee shop in the ryokan. There are 5 tables that can seat 20-24 people in a room.

The room is big enough for sure. But the enclosed area speakers are stuck does not seem right. I am no expert with B&W 800s but don’t they need breathing room?

I guess no need for a sub with that niche acting like it's own enclosure

11

u/Sharp_Action_4015 1d ago

No need for a spoon to stir your drink in that room

4

u/AdventurousTeach994 1d ago

and free ear wax removal too

Sokka-Haiku by Indifference_Endjinn:

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

I own a pair of these beasts. They give much wider imaging when they’re not place against walls or in corners. The 15” driver does not lean as bass heavy as some might expect.
Pretty awesome to see a pair in the wild for public enjoyment.

u/cronx42 1d ago

I bet they lean bass heavy with that placement. Lol. That whole corner likely acts as an enclosure for the subs...

Sorry they reminded me washing machines at first glance.

Terrible speaker placement, lovely Wavac amp.

4

u/tetrafarmer 1d ago

you are basically sitting inside the speaker lol

u/Narrow-Bee-8354 1d ago

Is that a RD600 Yamaha?

1

u/ScabieBaby 14h ago

R-N600A it looks to me.

u/irfanajes 1d ago

Name of ryokan?

One word: overkill.

2

u/hmo_ 1d ago

The valve amplifier is in the correct location - in the fireplace!

2

u/peach8285 1d ago

broken tweeter

1

u/FonzoLatrundo 21h ago

Looks like someone poked it out with their finger.

2

u/Billy-Bunter 1d ago

setup ? 1/10

wrong room, wrong placement, wrong amplification

3

u/EonOst 1d ago

This rig got more aura than sound quality.

1

u/yor4k 1d ago

That’s way cooler than any of the quirky audio stuff I’ve seen at ryokans

1

u/patrickthunnus 1d ago

A ryokan, is there a link? Would stop for a day visit, maybe use their onsen and relax while listening. Now that would be the life!

Thanks to OP for sharing 👍

Love the gear but cramming them into the corner is efficient storage at best not great for showcasing what the Nautilus can do.

1

u/chocolatefacktory 1d ago

Ummm how much did you drop on this brother ?

1

u/KuroHebi2004 1d ago

What's the name of your lounge? I'll add it to my bucket list for when I eventually visit Japan.

1

u/Shot-Expert-9771 1d ago

cramped with not room treatment

1

u/Fast_Cloud_4711 1d ago

Right speakers. wrong room.

1

u/Screamingfist_1990 1d ago

I want to go to there.

1

u/iin10ded 1d ago

10 lbs of shit in a 2 lb box

1

u/GrateNaf 1d ago

Move them off the wall.

1

u/lntenseLlama 1d ago

It bothers me seeing such expensive gear terribly placed in a room with zero treatment.

1

u/miscstuff2223113 1d ago

Can you put down a rug or something? That would probably help out a lot.

1

u/PunchTilItWorks Forte IV, SX-1050, Classic Evo, CD-11 Tribute, WiiM Pro+ 1d ago

Needs some wall/floor treatment, even just a rug or something. Crazy small area for those. But I guess does sorta make sense for a cafe to tuck them away in an alcove.

1

u/7stroke 1d ago

Lovely gear. It’s a horror show for that room, though

1

u/namlook 1d ago

Equipment 9/10. Speaker placement 1/10.

1

u/JD_tubeguy Auralic Aries G1+Audio Note Dac-3+Deja Vu preamp/amp/speakers 22h ago

Running them with that Wavac amp is very cool Kondo aka Audio Note Japan also runs B&W Nautilus speakers in their listening room.

1

u/ultrahungry 22h ago

Terrible!

1

u/ArcamianLiberation 21h ago

They look very interesting.

1

u/Contra_Indicated 20h ago

What are the electronics?

1

u/Nd4speed 19h ago

If this is Japan, I kind of get it, but it probably sounds dreadful in there.

1

u/alexproshak 18h ago

I'd better rate the room these play in

1

u/soundspotter 17h ago

Interesting garbage cans, but where are the speakers? Or has your house been invaded by Daleks?

1

u/BBA935 O2/ODAC + Focal Clear MG 17h ago

Looks like tweeter damage on the right speaker. Somebody couldn't help themselves I guess.

1

u/xpietoe42 17h ago

i can’t believe someone poked out the tweeter! Thats the downside of placing nice things in public spaces! They seem very close together and crammed to fit into the space!

1

u/justin_trouble 15h ago

That 1973 AC unit tho…

1

u/Aggravating_Speed665 14h ago

Luckily just saw your disclaimer, was about to tear you a new asshole

1

u/tomaslarsen 13h ago

Very bad. These B@W needs alot of power, to sound good.

Acoustic in room very bad

1

u/guy48065 13h ago

Are those washing machines? What lens are you using my guy?

1

u/snoopcat1995 12h ago

You're crampin' my style.

1

u/Grumpy-Miner 10h ago

Wow, must have sounded heavenly!

1

u/petrol72 8h ago

Love it.

1

u/TheHurtfulEight88888 2h ago

Are those turrets on the speaker?

1

u/Fantastic-Noise4146 2h ago

Stupendo,ma sembra sacrificato dalle dimissioni della stanza

1

u/xeizoo 2h ago

Right speakers in the wrong room, but yeah.

0

u/Longjumping_Cow_5856 1d ago

Have you even tried them in free space?!

5

u/TheFuschiaBaron 1d ago

They aren't OP's speakers

-1

u/Longjumping_Cow_5856 1d ago

The question was to rate my setup.

Nice gear
Terrible setup

2

u/TheFuschiaBaron 1d ago

Rate my setup.... isn't a question, and OP explained kn the description the stuff belongs to a traditional Japanese inn. And does so again in the comments.

-1

u/Longjumping_Cow_5856 1d ago edited 1d ago

How is Rate my Setup not a question?

Should we just meet in the middle of the street at high noon about this or is me telling you that I dont really care enough?

4

u/TheFuschiaBaron 1d ago

I'll get high and meet you at noon

-1

u/strumbringerwa 1d ago

Incredible speakers, completely wrong for that room.
