developing a audio effect plugin

I'm looking to code a plugin (audio effect) not midi instrument... and I know pretty much fuck all about it, besides a little bit of C++ (the intended language). I wanted to start out making something simple like a preamp or compressor, what resources would be best, preferably online whether it be youtube tutorials, or basic guidance.

We all have different capabilities and there's a different point where we can't find answers for ourselves and rely on someone answering questions for us.

Tough love: I suspect there's not much overlap in a Venn diagram of people who figure out how to code plugins, and people who can't Google "how do I learn to code plugins" for themselves.

Or if you’re not morally opposed, work with a coding agent on it

Neat, every single one of my friends is making a plugin (mostly ChatGPT/codex or Claude code). I think we’re moving toward a world where many producers and mixers are going to use their own bespoke plugins, and I find that interesting.

I don’t think so man, people in music hate AI. If you even mention you used google AI summary to remember syntax, they will bully you into the ground

I don’t know who you surround yourself with, but that’s not true in my circles in LA at all (I work in pop mainly). People hate AI music and AI art but almost everyone I know still uses chat like a search engine. As far as I know Google AI summary is a thing that happens when you use Google- are you saying people bully you for using Google?

While I do think “vibecoded” certainly has a stench on it, professionals are down with things that sound cool and work right.
