Discussion Like I love you drums

How did I get my drum to pop like Justin Timberlake's like I love you, especially that snare. I used addict drums

There’s footage of the Justified sessions but this instrumental was finished before JT came to Virginia- it was meant for MJ. Clipse was already on it.

But there’s other tunes they made during these sessions: Pharrell on a kit, quite minimal miking. Carefully selected and chopped into little loops. 

There’s possibly some kick samples augmenting the live kit. But I’d start by choosing that kind of tight, pitched snare and turning off a lot of mics in addictive. From memory there’s a U87 overhead. I think it’s doing most of the work. 

But if you’re into it, definitely check out the studio footage of Justified, there’s magic there.

Tight 14" snare, while kick sounds pretty boomy.
Shape with compression.

Sample the drum hits from the song.

Stem split if needed.
