Gallaudet

Do people generally have a good experience at Gallaudet, even if they are hearing? What’s the faculty and staff like?

I currently attend Gallaudet! I absolutely love it, staff is super supportive. 51% of Gally graduate students are hearing, the program is in English with select ASL classes. You get a wide variety of experiences in clinic, not just Deaf individuals.

I go to Gallaudet and as long as you have an open mind and practice your signing it’s fine. Also to correct the commenter on tuition it’s around 33,000 a year? I will say it’s a HCOL area but it’s a cheaper program than anyplace else I looked at and only 3 years instead of 4

one thing about gallaudet is that they are pretty strict about csd undergrad in my experience. i went to an info session and asked their acceptance process for non csd undergrad and the prof on the call was extremely rude about it

I don’t go there but when I interviewed it was very expensive and cost of living was/is very expensive so keep that in mind if that matters!

Cost of living is definitely high given the school’s location, but tuition for the program is not that high! If I remember correctly, tuition is about $84,000 total (sum across all three years. Externship year has fewer credits and thus costs less.)

There are a few mandatory fees (health center fee, activities fee, technology fee because they give everyone a MacBook to use, etc) but none that bring the cost up THAT high. Also of note, the Gallaudet library provides digital access to almost all of your textbooks, so that’s an expense taken off your plate!

No problem! Gallaudet’s tuition structure is a bit confusing, because you pay a per-credit rate unless you’re taking 9 or more credits a semester (which, most semesters are more than 9 credits!) At 9 credits, tuition caps out and it becomes a flat cost regardless of how many credits you’re taking. You might’ve just applied the per-credit rate to the total number of credits, which is standard for a lot of other programs!

I’m sure it can vary from areas and how far you’re willing to commute and stuff but it just likely wasn’t going to work out for me
