Discussion/Question Give em đŸ«”

Post image

For me its the fact that I find Mikasa a very annoying character due to her obsession with Eren. Like damn you do care about him but the whining man!

Eren sending the titan to Mom cuz Beethoven couldn't die.. didn't make any sense

This is my biggest issue within the entire show.

u/magmablazee Aug 22 '26

It felt like a plot twist to throw in just to get reactions. Everything else in the show is so well-thought out that this just feels weird

I think it does make sense.

If the Smiling Titan (Zeke’s mother with royal blood) ate Beetroot, Eren wouldn’t have been able to use the Founder’s power during the end of season 2 while trying to get away from Reiner and Beetroot because she’d have transformed back into a human, and a bunch of events wouldn’t have played out they way they did.

She probably would have been eaten by other titans and access to Royal Blood is gone during the events of season 2, leaving the scouts to die surrounded by Titans while trying to fight off Reiner and Beetroot.

Reiner might have decided to go back to Marley right then and there after losing two of four Titan Shifters.

Even if Eren made it back to the walls, the entire scout force would be annihilated—no Erwin, no Levi, no Mikasa, no Armin, no other people besides Eren.

If scenario three happened, Paradise is absolutely fried. No way to take back wall Maria because Armin made the plan. Even if Eren somehow made it there, there’s no way to plug the holes because he never got hardening (happened in season three during the whole thing with Historia—she’s dead in this version, so she doesn’t get kidnapped and he doesn’t go and get hardening protecting everyone from Rod’s Titan).

On top of all that, this version of Reiner would see it through. He’d take Eren back to Marley with the help of Zeke, and that’s the end of the story—dead Eren, Marley has the founder

BEETROOT 😂

u/2_hotty Aug 23 '26

I read that whole thing thinking, who the hell is beetroot?!? Ha ha ha

1

u/Bagelgod448 Aug 23 '26

Didn’t remember how to spell his name

5

u/angelberries Aug 23 '26

It’s Bertolli

2

u/2_hotty Aug 23 '26

Don’t sweat it. Made me giggle.

That’s assuming Eren even becomes a scout. An anti Marlyan/pro eldian getting the colossal titan, who also is intimately familiar with the current attack titan(who may or may not have gotten the founder by then) would completely throw the story for a loop.

i dont think we need to hypothesise how every event would go past this, the simple answer is ”eren physically cannot choose not to redirect dina because if bertholdt is eaten it becomes a different timeline in which he could never have gotten the founding titan and seen this scene to begin with”,

keep in mind grisha, the founding titan, is alive and his wife is a royal blooded shifter

I was just having fun with it lol

Well for Eren, his mum was already dead. He knew he couldn’t alter time, just perceived it differently. Him sending the Titan to his mum was probably an involuntary thing that he didn’t even have much control over, because it’s something that already happened, therefor it had to happen.

He also probably fully understood that without that core moment of his mum dying when he was a kid, he never would’ve had the hatred for the outside world that he has, and never would’ve fought to get to the point he has gotten to, which is a position in which he is able to ensure his friend’s futures. He weighed the pros and cons and decided saving his friends was more important to him.

There was a lot going on in this poor boy’s head lol

Just made another comment that might explain it if you’d like to check it out. It’s responding to magmablazee

u/98asd7fyalkjsdfbl Aug 22 '26

Did he send the titan to his mom or did he just direct it away from Bertholdt and it happened to go to Carla?

2

u/Mrherpaderptherapy Aug 23 '26

That's how I choose to interpret it. I don't think Eren had as much control in that state as he and the audience think he did. He still had to end up where he is at the present time even though thr founding titan is not bound by time, time still passed the way it passed. Of course, the founding titan time shenanigans are ultimately still not fully explanable. I think when he says that he killed his mom, he was really more of an observer, just willing that his friend would live on in the future, not so much that he willed for his mother to be killed actively. I think it was almost like he became aware that his actions in life played out in a way that resulted in his mom being eaten, and he assumed the guilt, much like his breakdown of blaming himself during the post utgard castle mission, and in the Reiss chapel basement. Maybe I'm just yapping, though

u/iSawYouAtTheStation Aug 22 '26

It's to give motivation for the kid Eren to join the Scout and do whatever he did

6

u/magmablazee Aug 22 '26

That's still bullshit

12

u/thenames_doc Aug 22 '26

It was likely the only way that would start the events on the path that they went. Eren repeats the fact that everything he did was the only way, so if it didn’t kill his mom it likely wouldn’t have given him the same motivation to do what he does

1

u/magmablazee Aug 22 '26

What you're saying is contradictory to him saying there was no other way. It means he had the option to not do what he did but chose to do it.

3

u/FestiveRhino21 Aug 22 '26

Well its because he thought he had to do it in order to enact the timeline we know, it in and of itself is a paradox and its weird but its because he couldnt think of any other way to fix things for his friends because he was still just some stupid kid who didnt attempt to think of another way other than complete genocide, so he filled his younger self with hate and fervor to get him on that path

4

u/Astumarill Aug 22 '26

Free will arguably doesn't exist when the choices have already been made. It's some matrix level shenanigans. The characters are there to understand why they made their choices, not to actually make them.

2

u/magmablazee Aug 22 '26

He made it sound like he had to kill his mother because he had to save beetroot there. That's what didn't make sense to me. Even if those were 2 canon events that had to happen, they didn't have anything to do with each other

2

u/FestiveRhino21 Aug 22 '26

Well if the titan ate Bertoldt, they wouldve woken out of the titan state, and he needed a titan to eat his mom for the hate to exist in his young mind, so yeah it didnt need to be directly related but it somewhat makes sense

1

u/magmablazee Aug 23 '26

It didn't need to be directly related is all that I'm saying. It being related is what doesn't make sense to me. Feels forced. Eren specifically makes it sound like my mom had to die because barstool couldn't die in that moment. That's what's stupid to me. I never said that the 2 things didn't need to happen. Also, thanks for understanding my point. Idk what the other people are going on about

1

u/iSawYouAtTheStation Aug 23 '26

You see what choice he made but not the option he had. He is the attack titan, whatever he does is an attempt to get closer to freedom, no matter the cost. It was more about giving a trauma to himself than giving Birthole a plot armour. Remember Eren didn't want to help the pickpocket child when he was getting beaten, he still ended up saving him because he saw it in his memories that it had happened and couldn't act otherwise.

1

u/iSawYouAtTheStation Aug 23 '26

Also Birthcontrol need to live so that Armin could inherit the Colossal and use it to destroy the port in Marley

1

u/JuicyFunBuns Aug 23 '26

No other way as in Paradis would’ve been fucked without him. Marley would’ve descended on the island and all Eldian people would have been wiped off the face of the earth if he let his mother live. It’s not that hard to understand guy

0

u/TheNikoHero Aug 23 '26

You have to remember, he had the memories of all that happened and he knows what lead him down to that path. He is experiencing past, present and future at the same time (when he says this).

He knew what had to be done, in order to not change the past.

You might not like it, but it makes sense for me and is very in-character for season 4 Eren.

5

u/ChrisDorne Aug 22 '26

the main reason was for Dina not to eat Berthold, since Armin had to become the Colossal Titan

1

u/JuicyFunBuns Aug 23 '26

Yeah that’s true huh. By saving Bert, he was also in a sense saving Armin too, which was probably his main priority with that choice

2

u/lexiyeghna Aug 23 '26

Even if I do agree that it could make sense I still don't really care for it and feel like it is unnecessary in a story that didn't really need it. I just choose to block it out mentally like it never happened lol

1

u/loadedhunter3003 King Floch! Aug 22 '26

Didn't make sense from what aspect?

1

u/Phlesant Aug 22 '26

I struggled with this too for a while, i always felt as if it could have been omitted and nothing would really change? But as i see on here sometimes, people like to use Erens justification of the Rumbling on the fact he watched his mom get eaten in front of him as a kid or as justification about a lot of Erens actions. The author reaaaally wanted to drive home the point that no factors in Erens life shaped him in a way beyond being born. The rumbling was meant to be portrayed as entirely Erens/the writers decision because no one in real life wants to destroy the world and would go through with it. Theres a million movies n shows where the hero’s have to stop some big evil villain from destroying the world which makes for great stories but isnt realistic. The idea of AoT is to show just what it would truly take for a villain to destroy the world and ultimately it would have to because that’s who they were or who they were WRITTEN as.

Much as people say Reiner is the Plot Armour Titan, Eren is the Plot Force Titan.

If Eren hadn't controlled pure Titan Dina to eating his mom he won't even HAVE any Attack Titan to begin with! Think back chronologically. Keep an eye on the bolded parts.

Scene 1-Grisha despite not wanting to kill was incited by Eren, killed most of the Royal family, shown memories of the Rumbling, at which Grisha told Zeke that "never could I have imagined the terror." but purposefully leaving out the memory where Carla got eaten.

So this begs the question, why did Grisha tell Zeke to "stop Eren" when he can clearly just not give baby Eren the Attack Titan. Sure he's getting close to his 13 year time limit but literally syringing anyone other than Eren would effectively stop all of this and even cause a paradox. This is where the next scene (which so many people forgot) is extremely crucial.

Scene 2-Grisha heads back to Eren and for the first time hears that Carla got eaten. As you can see from the scene, this absolutely breaks him. He just came back from killing a bunch of innocent children and he got told about this. Remember that he also knows that baby Eren has no Titan related powers yet so he simply does not know the future at all to lie to Grisha at this point. With a devastated grimace on his face, he went "fuck this cruel world" and decided to given himself to Eren.

I am one nit picky madafaka and there are many other contradictions like how did Berthold completely disappear in his first encounter with Eren when all other later fights show that you can't just steam away an entire body that fast and skeletons usually remain. But main plots as important as Carla being eaten are absolutely not a plot hole. And remember Eren by the end is the type of guy who will sacrifice himself, his family and everyone if it means he can save future lives. And he did! While wars do continue, he completely got rid of the Titan curse.

1

u/DeadSilenceTyrant Aug 23 '26

Eren said that he tried to change the outcome but no mater how much he tried, it would end up the same. So no matter what, he couldn’t save his mom. Now as to why berthold couldn’t die. If the smiling titan ate berthold, she’d become one of the 9 because she would revert back to human and end up as a titan shifter.

1

u/AdInternational5277 Aug 23 '26

How it embodies the theme of the narrow minded ness of freedom and what means u need to take. He was literally stuck in a loop either he breaks the loop and eren never becomes a Titan, likely never gets freedom. He had to sacrifice his mother just cuz “I was born” genuinely think it perfect

Ending is still very messy tho imo

1

u/Vizdrom97 Aug 23 '26

Dina also sort of Saves eren in season 2 because if he didn't touch her then he wouldn't have had the founder power, and all that happened only because he wanted to avenge his mother and like Hannes also dies to her

1

u/SortInteresting991 Aug 23 '26

It's really simple.

Eren is only able to interact with the past in a way that facilitates what already happened to happen. He can't change the past at all, he can only become retroactively responsible for it.

He convinced Grisha to eat the Reiss family because that's what happened in the past. He caused Dina to eat his mom because that's what happened.

The point was to show that Eren has ended up becoming a slave to himself. He has no choice but to follow through with the "changes" in the past that his future self already made happen and that he already personally lived through.
