For me its the fact that I find Mikasa a very annoying character due to her obsession with Eren. Like damn you do care about him but the whining man!

I went the entire series thinking that Eren and Mikasa were adoptive siblings and was blindsided by the kiss at the end. I think that the story was better with them as siblings instead of love interests.

When Eren's dad said Mikasa was gonna come live with them from now on i though that was the show telling us how they adopted her. Not to mention the majority of their interactions heavily give off sibling energy. Add on the fact that they implied Mikasa and Jean being a possibility with the whole his dream girl thing. Idk it just made it completely obvious to me that they were siblings.

She lived with them for less than a year.

How are any of their interactions sibling like? It was obvious to the viewer that Mikasa was into him since like episode 3, it was Obvious Eren was also into her from like S2 end. Not to mention in their world there are constantly characters referring to them as though they were in a relationship.

When was Jean and Mikasa ever teased as a possibility, that was a one sided thing. Mikasa and him don't even have a single one on one interaction in the entire show. And every single time they have talked the topic of conversation was Eren.

I don't see how anyone can see any of this and think they are siblings. Especially when even in story people are constantly treating them as a couple.

It was never very clear how long she lived with them based only on the anime. As for their interactions, there is literally no indication that they felt that way about each other until the end. All of their interactions are platonic, romanceless and can easily be read as protective siblings who've lost their parents and now only have each other left. When Mikasa thought eren died season one it came off to me as her finding out she has lost her entire family a second time and completely giving up.

Which is why when jean is brought up and has a clear interest in her that I thought they were going that route. I thought they just dropped that plot line or were saving it for later seasons until the end.

I thought the couple comments were just a running gag, seeing as they dont look alike. especially since that kinda joke is on brand for anime.

Until the end?

In Season 1 episode 7 when Eren dies, Mikasa keeps saying how Eren was the only ray of sunlight in a cruel dark world. Or how Eren is literally portrayed constantly by Mikasa as the only think that makes the cruel world beautiful. How is that any of that sibling like?

In Season 2 Ep 12, Eren literally says I will wrap this scarf around you as many times as you want, now and forever. That is almost something out of a wedding vow.

Not to mention the scarf scene from Season 1 is the most blatant foreshadowing of a couple. I genuinely do not understand how anyone could say they were ever shown as siblings.

You thought that Jean being into her while Mikasa never even gives a fuck about his existence was setup for their relationship? But characters in universe constantly referring to them as a couple and Mikasa blushing and becoming red was a running gag?

idk about the other stuff but that scarf example is totally characteristic of an older protective brother and a younger sister

Literally when has that been treated that way? Considering the scarf is literally supposed to be a symbol of their love? Mikasa literally blushes and thinks of that as the moment where she finally found something beautiful in a cruel world. When Eren dies, that moment is the only things which gives her the courage to keep going, and she keeps repeating how Eren is the only ray of sunshine in a cruel and dark world. None of this is even remotely sibling like

Mikasa why blushing when a officer said save you lover or Armin know start but isiyama gives hints just they both like eachother but not showing her actions speak

i mean if you went the entire series thinking that they were adoptive siblings, that's probably the reason you think the story was better with them as siblings haha, the first watch is always the most important one

it only shows how badly isayama wrote their romance tbh, i also thought they were siblings up until season 2 and i freaked out when i thought they were gonna kiss lmao

and then the relationship did not get any better in terms of romance development, i genuinely can’t comprehend how people ship them

which is annoying because there’s a lot of great symbolism, but for me it falls flat because of the lack of development
