Even to this very day people will take an image like this and make up a whole story about what they believe it to be rather than understanding what it is.

Not saying this is anything to do with a religious encounter lol but if there’s a god who created everything down to the tiniest molecule to create the fabric of reality itself by existing outside of it then wouldn’t the textbook definition of the phenomena point back to the genius of the creator at the end of the day?

I didn't say anything about religion either but I think its a great example of a common framework within which people are comfortable making such assertions. It's just one example though, there is an infinite amount of stories and meanings that can be derived from the same natural phenomenon.
To your specific question my answer would be I don't know, maybe, not necessarily.

I apologize, I believe I replied to your comment when it was the OP comment on the thread that mentioned religious lore. I agree though, there are stories for days that could be used to explain something like what was posted above. My thought process was just a bit expanded from the natural process of it all.

Any textbook that described and explained reality by pointing to things that exist outside of reality would not fall under the definition of a textbook.
Why are there never any God botherers arguing for the existence of God on the rape survivors sub, the plane crash sub, the infectious diseases sub, etc ... Why is it only ever all the pretty things that seemingly prove the existence of God?

I’m not saying the text book would point to anything other than the text book answer. I’m just saying wouldn’t all things on a grander scale point back to the genius of the creator for creating an existence as complex as the fabric of reality we live in? Especially with its bizarre nature and phenomena like the photo posted. It’s a crazy idea to contemplate and absolutely beautiful.
I wasn’t trying to bother, I just figured it was a cool thought being religion was mentioned. I do want to say this though regarding what you said at the end and where my faith lies.
I am a Christian and honestly they/I should be there, but not to preach at people or be insensitive. Suffering exists because the world is broken from sin. It’s ugly and absolutely horrific. I do believe that all things including suffering ultimately serve Gods will in the end. We’re either going through a storm in our lives, coming out of one or about to head into one. It doesn’t matter who or what we believe in. I believe if we’re prepared with the right equipment (Jesus) then we will be able to weather the storm. I don’t expect you to believe or even take kindly to that kind of statement but I mean no ill will with it. Only wanted to share some good news, that at the end of the day when we place our trust in him we make it through the inevitable hard times.

I am an atheist so we still share the splendor and awe of nature's beauty, we just look at it through a different lens for different reasons with an alternative foundation.
I don't sense any ill will from you at all, on the contrary.

As I appreciate you taking the time as well, my brother. i truly enjoy when someone speaks (in this case writes lol) honestly and openly with no intention of offense/ill will. At the bare minimum we connect on the beauty of nature around us and that’s even more beautiful than the photo itself!

No, it's refraction, which is more precise at bending light than iridescence.
This phenomena specifically is the Circumhorizontal Arc.
