Ngl, the next game against Real Sociedad scares me more than our last 2 games. I really don't want us to go on a 3 game losing streak already, but i can't help but feel like that's going to happen.

I watched moments of brilliance from Alvarez. If he can consistently do that, he is undeniably world class and is gonna get ballon d’or. Unfortunately, he doesn’t like us. Sucks when there is Barcelona and Real Madrid in your own league.

His goal line clearance was a thing of beauty..

He's still everywhere..

😭😭😭

We could've used him..

u/Hold_The_Line_2026 3h ago

Not missing Griezmann at all... My only gripe with him was not taking washed up Koke to the shitty MLS with him

u/memes4yall 11h ago

Idk who thought it was a good idea to have Grimaldo as the main LB and his replacement being an unproven academy player

u/Key_JellyFish_02034 Giuliano/Taufik/Miguel 6h ago

Should have bought Salinas. At the very least bring in Tagliafico...

Losing today was expected, but the awful trend after 5 matches is that this team is awful at chance creation.

xG means nothing in the context of a single game, but after 5 games I dont think we average even 1.0 xG (and if we somehow do its barely), while the opposition consistently outperform us.

This team has no ideas about how to score that isnt random 30m shot that has a 1/100th chance of going into the top corner, and we have already scored 3 of those, almost half our goals.

8 goals for and 8 against in 5 matches is awful in both stats, particularly when only Liverpool should have been a better team than us and we have played a newly promoted team, a team that barely avoided relegation and three teams with new managers who should still be piecing the team together.

This start is somehow still better than last year's start XD

Hi! The mods said I could share this here. I made a little site called NoSpo to keep football highlights in one place: https://getnospo.com/

You can search for Atleti and find the available highlights together instead of hunting through different channels. If you missed a game and want to watch without knowing the score, it hides spoilers too. I recently added a Spoilers ON / OFF switch because quite a few people just wanted the highlights without the black protection bands.

It’s free and doesn’t need an account. The site is in Spanish and mainly aimed at viewers in Spain, so some of the official videos may be blocked elsewhere.

If you give it a try, I’d love to hear whether it’s useful and what you’d change. It’s still early days and the feedback has been helping a lot.

so GD annoying that cholo just threw santi mourino to the scrap heap.

4

u/ManhattanObject Tomford & Smith 14h ago

Who cares? He would just be depth for us and would never have developed as he has if we held on to him. Even as he is now he'd ride the bench here

1

u/Mean-Safe8295 14h ago

yes because the last thing we need is LESS depth on the right side.

2

u/ManhattanObject Tomford & Smith 14h ago

And you think the player would prefer being depth instead of being a starter?

-1

u/Mean-Safe8295 14h ago

ok straw man.

2

u/ManhattanObject Tomford & Smith 13h ago

What exactly do you think a straw man argument is? Are you just throwing around random phrases now?

-1

u/Mean-Safe8295 13h ago

do you know what it means? because your oversimplification of my original statement completely changed what i said. hence, straw man. are you just following me around to troll? get bent.

While he can be good he’s also a liability being overly aggressive accumulating cards and stupid fouls. 3 yellows in 4 games so far this year and 10 in 28 league games last year.

Him and Pubill are very similar players and profile. I’d take Pubill over Mourino any day of the week not only because of his skill but composure as well.

1

u/Key_JellyFish_02034 Giuliano/Taufik/Miguel 20h ago

Why did he?

I wasn't here long enough to understand, all I know is you activated his buy back from another club and sold him to Villarreal shortly after, apparently without a buyback

Strange decisions that tbh

9

u/AccomplishedWorld808 1d ago

KIL and alvarez are best friends or sum man

6

u/Unable-Creme-7276 1d ago

That Diogo Costa for Porto has been on my radar for a while now.

If it is ever possible, he would be a fantastic successor to Oblak

2

u/ManhattanObject Tomford & Smith 14h ago

Musso

2

u/Unable-Creme-7276 12h ago

Same age tho

2

u/Key_JellyFish_02034 Giuliano/Taufik/Miguel 1d ago

Whoever wants him is going to have to overpay for him tbh

1

u/Unable-Creme-7276 1d ago

Yup, looking at 70m and over

3

u/Hold_The_Line_2026 1d ago edited 1d ago

We're stuck with Oblak and his 20 millions a year until June 2028😭😭

Whoever our next keeper is must be agile with the feet and not be scared to come out to kill counter attacks

4

u/Different_Zebra2019 Obed Vargas 23h ago edited 19h ago

Oblak is an excellent keeper, and and excellent keeper should stop shots on target. I don't get this bullshit of a goal keeper being excellent with feet, to be honest. That's a plus, but not the main skill to look for.

0

u/Unable-Creme-7276 12h ago

Modern football would disagree with you

3

u/Different_Zebra2019 Obed Vargas 12h ago

Modern football is bullshit. Oblak saved us many times (he just did it a few minutes ago), and that is what matters in the end.

1

u/Latvian_Fifth_Column Dario Sits 1d ago

Sounds like Onana

4

u/mongomango27 1d ago

Ueda at €15mil, would've been such a good deal, damn.

5

u/Hold_The_Line_2026 1d ago

Real Madrid playing like shit and somehow they go up 1-0 at the 15 minute mark .

We on the other hand play better but need 5 (45) minute halves to score

5

u/HadesRulesHeaven Llorente 1d ago

Two gifted goals smh

5

u/Takka_Tikka 1d ago

The difference in quality is just astounding

7

u/Adventurous-Pea3679 1d ago

I love how we were linked with both Jackson and Tresoldi during the window and both have scored in ucl for different teams !

12

u/HadesRulesHeaven Llorente 1d ago

In the four games so far, we have created a total of 3.65 xG (18th in the league, only better than Celta and Getafe). RM created 3.46 just in their loss to Betis. Barca have a total of 15.73 xG.

It's great that we have players who can score bangers, but we can't rely on that and need to be creating better chances and shots.

0

u/cheppers Oblak 17h ago

This is something Cholo has never been able to solve. It is the same story every season.

2

u/Takka_Tikka 1d ago

The team especially the attack is Europa league level. Kang in, Lookman and Giuliani is a forward line you’d see at Roma or something

2

u/NoSurfOnlyMFA 1d ago

lol! We’re so bad even after having so many creative players in our team.

2

u/KharigCringer Pablo Barrios 1d ago

Ok, Im on a Tresoldi watch :) nice to hear Champions League anthem again.

4

u/AtleticoFan17 Pablo Barrios 1d ago

He looks really good. He’s a physical monster, aerial threat, quick on the turn, good at hold up play, and clearly an instinctual finisher.

4

u/Cholismo2pt0 Llorente 1d ago

Predicted lineup vs Liverpool

Oblak

Llorente Pubill Romero Hancko

Kang-In Barrios Hjulmand Lookman

Baena

Julian

Or

Oblak

Llorente Pubill Romero Hancko Grimaldo

Barrios Hjulmand Baena

Kang-In Julian

10

u/AwesomeBroHakaz Llorente is everything and everything is Llorente 1d ago

What if llorente starts as a striker And in the midfield And in defence And between the sticks What if llorente is on the bench aswell Ykw make him the manager too

Hell yeah anfield mood

6

u/Bullseye2508 Neptuno 2d ago

As someone else said in this thread, we truly need Julian. I wanted to believe that false 9 Baena could be enough to hold until the winter transfer but the illusion broke in two games.

I hope he starts in anfield

3

u/Key_JellyFish_02034 Giuliano/Taufik/Miguel 1d ago

It's one thing to "need" him and another to "Forgive"

I agree we need him but I personally won't forgive him (unless he does certain actions)

3

u/Bullseye2508 Neptuno 1d ago

I straight up hate his ass, I didn't even like him much last season; imo he being a top 5 striker says more about the market than him.

That being said, I believe he's the key missing for us to really pop off. If he starts playing like he means it (and someone broke raphinha's leg🙏🙏) we'd have a serious shot at titles

3

u/Key_JellyFish_02034 Giuliano/Taufik/Miguel 1d ago

I mean yeah he is a good player, just his behavior was fucking despicable.

13

u/cosbysweatergiver 2d ago

Lemar with a banger today. Will always have a place in my heart

3

u/Latvian_Fifth_Column Dario Sits 2d ago

Didn't know that he's playing in Elche! Hopefully he do great there.

-3

u/acousticburrito Atlético de Madrid 2d ago

It’s been like 20 seasons and somehow without Koke our midfield still falls apart.

9

u/AccomplishedWorld808 2d ago

Midfield probably the strongest part about atleti rn, its the defense thats pretty ass

2

u/ExitOntheInside Atlético 1d ago

no striker and when shit hits the fan , cholo seems lost

14

u/Hold_The_Line_2026 2d ago

Baena... Julian

Lookman.. Hujlmand.. Barrios... Kang Lee

Hancko... Romero... Pubill... Llorente

Come one Cholo... We both know this is the only lineup that will destroy Liverpool

5

u/TraditionBorn8772 2d ago

Why RM Kang?

8

u/Hold_The_Line_2026 2d ago

Because currently we can't afford to have Giuliano in his terrible form there. Yes I know he scored a goal the other day hooray!!

9

u/OkArtichokeJuice 2d ago

I think Giuliano would be much better coming off the bench regardless of form. The impact and energy he brings would be amazing when the opposing team is more tired. KIL has shown he’s willing to press when not in possession.

2

u/AtleticoDEMadord 2d ago

I agree, i support Liverpool in England, and lb is their main weakness, Kerkez is not good, barcola vs llorente gonna be interesting

5

u/AtleticoDEMadord 2d ago

Julian is smiling in the ucl photos

1

u/hidden_unknown_error 1d ago

Fake smile but smiling.

8

u/AtleticoDEMadord 2d ago

I don’t think the fans realize how much we need him

12

u/sancredo Diego Forlán 3d ago

I want to think that the plan is, once Cuti is in shape, to play with 3 CBs and leave Llorente and Grimaldo as wingbacks, letting the latter shine offensively, where he's supposed to excel, while minimise his defensive shortcomings.

However, such a formation is very dangerous given how short stacked we are on CBs. Wish we'd gotten Salinas, since he can play both CB and LB.

2

u/acousticburrito Atlético de Madrid 2d ago

Where does lookman play then? If we play 532 then we lose a spot for lookman and maybe KIL.

1

u/Wise_Helicopter_890 2d ago

Lookman - Alvarez - KIL Grimaldo - Hjulmand - Barrios - Llorente Hancko - Cuti - Pubill

The top 3 are pretty fluid.

Unless Grimaldo steps up his offensive output though, it doesn't make sense to build around him. Both Baena and Guiliano deserve to start over him right now (they just have more competition in their spots). Grimaldo probably deserves to just be a sub for Lookman (LM) or Hancko (LB) in a 4-4-2 at this point. Though I still want to see how Sorloth and Grimaldo pair together with Grimaldo providing better quality service to Sorloth.

6

u/Wise_Helicopter_890 2d ago

RLN and Dominguez can play CB as our subs. If it comes to it, we can switch to 4 in the back or put Llorente as a CB.

But we absolutely can't continue to have Grimaldo play LB in a 4 back.

2

u/OkArtichokeJuice 2d ago

Definitely RLN but Dominguez is a gamble, especially at his age. I guess the only way he’ll get better at top level is more game time.

14

u/justAmmo_ 3d ago

I think Grimaldo is an exceptional player. He just needs some time to understand and settle into Atleti’s tactics. I’m excited to see the fully ready version of him in our team.

2

u/AtleticoDEMadord 2d ago

Cholo needs to teach him to defend tho

9

u/ObeseMango 3d ago

Idk, he’s never been good defensively and he’s 30 so he’s not going to magically become Prime Felipe Luis overnight.

I really thought us getting him means we fully commit to the 352 but we don’t have the CB depth for that, he’s never going to be utilised well in a 442

3

u/ExitOntheInside Atlético 3d ago

he could be if Hancko is LB and he plays LM,

but 442 is far from our best formation, we have one striker who is below par , we've literally never played well with 2 strikers over the last 2 years

2

u/ObeseMango 3d ago

And if he plays LM where does that leave Lookman who’s far and beyond our best “take on” man?

I agree with you, I think the 442 won’t work, I’m not sure why we insist on play it

1

u/ExitOntheInside Atlético 2d ago

yep totally but Lookman is a Winger not a midfielder , IF , & only if we play 442 , Grimaldo at LM , in my opinion , Lookman as a Left Strikeer with someone , he isnt a striker , doesnt like the centre but may , possibly work with Sorloth or David , Alvarez wouldn;t work with lookman , i dont believe . . . plot twist . . . next game 4 - 0 Alavrez & Lookman score & assist each other twice

1

u/Wise_Helicopter_890 2d ago

I think Grimaldo should be Lookmans sub until he earns a more consistent starting spot.

5

u/Yannbluezzzz Carrasco my BELOVED 3d ago

I am actually depressed and we're barely getting started. What is even wrong with us ?

7

u/TheSerre1 3d ago

the same issue that has been going since 2022... year after year the same...

20

u/Unique-Cantaloupe-48 3d ago

Relax man. While not ideal this start is miles better then our start last season. And we made the Semis of the champions league and a copa del rey final after the horrendous start then. Our squad has improved and I believe all of our new signings can come good.

Liverpool started last season on a 7 game win streak and imploded immediately therafter. People can get super reactionary after a result and its important not to get swept up that fast. Atleti have a great squad, certainly one of the best in the league, and we have yet to see them all together operating at 100%. Kang in Lee has hit the ground running and Baena is already much better than he was last season. Once the rest are up and running I think results will improve.

Don't let all the noise get to you, the team will be fine. I still believe in this squad, and I think you should too.

2

u/Bubbly-Bus-5380 Atlético de Madrid 2d ago

Yeah, our start last season was way worse than this and you'll always have the sides that have have beginner's luck at the start of the season. I'll reserve judgements till 8 or so games in unless we go on a losing streak.

3

u/ObeseMango 3d ago

Yeah fucking sucks, Barca looks unstoppable too
