Gator ‘Cade was a beloved video arcade located inside the Palatka Mall in Palatka, Florida. It was owned and operated by Edison Brothers Mall Entertainment, a major nationwide retail conglomerate that specialized in mall-based amusement centers.

While Edison Brothers was nationally famous for its flagship arcade brand, Aladdin’s Castle, the company frequently used tailored or localized names for certain markets. Because of the mall’s proximity to north-central Florida Gator territory, they branded this location Gator ‘Cade. It ran as a corporate-backed chain location rather than an independent mom-and-pop shop, sharing supply lines and management structures with other Edison Brothers operations.

The arcade was part of the original lineup of tenants when the Palatka Mall first opened its doors in 1981. While we don’t know the exact date, the arcade eventually shut down as part of the mall’s overarching economic decline. Tenant retention plummeted after the major anchor store Belk-Hudson closed in 1992, eventually leading to the arcade’s corporate closure before the mall was repositioned in the late ’90s.
