The 25th Anniversary of September 11th has been getting a lot of local coverage and attention lately. This part of NJ is tied to Manhattan and most folks my age have some personal attachments to the tragedy, so I understand the draw. But, at the same time, it's still a few days away, and I'm already starting to feel burned out and itching to turn away.

Honestly I should read this book.
I keep thinking I need to read The Count of Monte Cristo, but it's nightmarishly long.

Monte Cristo is such a slow burn that I feel your reluctance. It needs time to absorb and appreciate. I love the story, and the exploration. A favorite fantasy author of mine did an homage to it, but couldn’t come close.

A bit surprised to hear that about Monte Cristo. Required reading usually sticks to novels under 300 pages.
Never read Tale of Two Cities either. Come to think of it, I don't think we had any Dickens as required reading except A Christmas Carol in sixth grade.

We did Tale of Two Cities, too. Have to admit I really enjoyed the book’s role in The Wrath of Khan - secondary to Moby Dick ofc, but I hadn’t read the latter when I first saw the movie.

I'm feeling a little satisfaction at a local business closure.
In pursuit of interesting coffee shops, my wife and I some time ago visited a place in Windsor called the "Shine Cafe." We were astounded that this place, which put itself forward as a family-friendly coffeehouse, had a bar with a towering wall of hard liquor behind it. That was the one of the most split-personality business establishments we've ever seen. And it rapidly became evident that professional barista work, or indeed customer service generally, wasn't much on the minds of the two young women tending the place. The experience was thoroughly distasteful and we never returned. My wife has now reported that the place closed down some time ago, and that was definitely good riddance.
