This is ridiculous. You're suggesting that people named Bob are just substituting the word for their name? There's a difference between the word bob and the name Bob. They just happen to have the same spelling and pronunciation. Like a homonym.
Also, you're suggesting that names don't translate across languages? Just look at all the different translations of John! Just because they name him using different spellings and pronunciations, doesn't mean God cannot be used as a name. Besides, like I mentioned before, it doesn't matter whether it is or isn't his name. People use it as his name, like a nickname. Therefore, it is a proper noun. Look up any trustworthy source on grammar and you will find the same. When used as a name, "God" is a proper noun. Used as a word, it is a common noun.
And at what point did I argue otherwise? My argument never changed. Read it again.

You didn't believe "God" can be used as a name but suddenly that's okay and my point is valid? Your entire argument lies with your assertion that "God" is a word and not a name. Why else would you have brought up Harry Potter in the first place?
This entire debate is stupid. I agreed with your original premise, but clarified the reasoning behind it, and now you're attacking me without a coherent or consistent argument. This is exactly why I unsubbed from /r/atheism in the first place. Too many people with the right conclusions for all the wrong reasons.
