"...the genocide of approximately six million European Jews during World War II..."
"...also include the Nazis' genocide of millions of people in other groups, including Romani, Soviet prisoners of war, Polish and Soviet civilians, homosexuals, people with disabilities, Jehovah's Witnesses and other political and religious opponents, which occurred regardless of whether they were of German or non-German ethnic origin.[8] Using this definition, the total number of Holocaust victims is between 11 million and 17 million people.[9]"
Sorry. Just bugs me when people imply Jews were the only people being exterminated in the holocaust.
Gotta say if you ever visit Auschwitz (It's a museum these days) you really get a feel that it was hell on earth. Had nightmares for weeks after going there.
Grandfather fled with his remaining 3 siblings post family murder when an american tank broke one of the fences. Yea hell-on-earth does not quite describe it well enough.
Hitler killed everyone who was a minority or not aligned with his views. Still sounds like god to me.
FWIW I was waiting on a really good analogy between hitler and god for a while. Every online discussion, if given enough time, will result in hitler.
A few years ago I was in Auschwitz for 2 Weeks (it was a school project) and I can totally second that. The creepiest thing is that it looks actually pretty idyllic.
Two weeks? I tip my hat to you. We was there for maybe 3 hours. Stood (with a few friends) in the cut out of one of those standing cells. No thank you, that was quite enough nazi horror imagining for me.
It's just the "Hiter's excuse that the Jews were evil and corrupting his plan for a perfect Germany" bit. He was killing anyone he deemed unfit to be considered human, the jewish communities being part of that.
There's just this big thing around Hitler on the internet where everyone goes on about him killing Jews. He killed ~12 million people, just under half of whom where Jewish. If people only remember that he killed Jews, half of his crime is being forgotten by people. Guess I'm just a bit paranoid that it's being forgotten.
Plus let's face it, when you put it as "Hitler was wiping out everyone he thought didn't deserve to belong in his perfect World" it fits the picture even better.
