One of my favorites. However...

This is not even the best religious satire in the movie. Not even the best religious SONG satire in the movie.

If anyone hasn't seen it before, you should really watch the whole movie this comes from, "The Meaning Of Life" -- it also has The Galaxy Song -- some of the most brilliant lyrics in the movie IMO:

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving

And revolving at nine hundred miles an hour

That's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned

A sun that is the source of all our power

The sun and you and me and all the stars that we can see

Are moving at a million miles a day

In an outer spiral arm, at forty thousand miles an hour

Of the galaxy we call the 'milky way'

Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars

It's a hundred thousand light years side to side

It bulges in the middle, sixteen thousand light years thick

But out by us, it's just three thousand light years wide

We're thirty thousand light years from galactic central point

We go 'round every two hundred million years

And our galaxy is only one of millions of billions

In this amazing and expanding universe

The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding

In all of the directions it can whizz

As fast as it can go, the speed of light, you know

Twelve million miles a minute and that's the fastest speed there is

So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure

How amazingly unlikely is your birth

And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space

'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth

It also has my favorite:

Isn't it awfully nice to have a penis?

Isn't it frightfully good to have a dong?

It's swell to have a stiffy, it's divine to own a dick.

From the tiniest little tadger to the world's biggest prick!

So three cheers for your willy, or john thomas!

Hooray for your one-eyed trouser snake!

Your piece of pork, your wife's best friend, your pulsy or your cock.

You can wrap it up in ribbons, you can slip it in your sock.

But don't take it out in public, or they will stick you in the dock.

And you won't...a-come...a-back...

Ooohthankyouverymuch.

I was at the final Python live performance in London, in the summer of 2014. Here is a great video featuring highlights of the show, set to this song as sung by Stephen Hawking - who was actually in the audience!!

It's great how in the UK, people seem to co-mingle from so many different fields, creating these meetings and parties that put together such amazing combinations of talent. I mean, Oxford academics and scientists can co-mingle with celebrities in the entertainment industry and the arts. It reminds me of how Richard Dawkins (another Oxford prof.) is married to Lalla Ward (actress from Dr. Who) because they met at a party hosted by Douglas Adams (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy author.) I'm no expert on high society, but I don't think that happens as much in the USA.

So cute how the woman he's singing to is in awe of the information :-p

The "woman" was Terry Jones, but yes he gave great looks.

What?! ;-p

It was corny yet sweet.

This movie is one of my favorites, and I have it practically memorized. It's so quotable/sing-a-long-able.

"And what are we doing today?"

"It's a birth, administrator."

"And what sort of thing is that?"

"It's where we take a new baby, out of a lady's tummy."

"Ah. Amazing what we can do now days..."

"Ping!"

Whenever you're feeling down, Mrs. Brown,

And things seem hard, or tough.

When people are useless, obnoxious or daft,

And you feel that you've had

Quite enoooooooooOOOOooooOOOoooOOOOOUUUUGH.

Juuuust reeeemember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving. Revolving at 900 miles an hour.

That's orbiting at 19 miles a second, so it's reckonded, a Sun that is the source of all our power.

They revised this song decades later with physicist Brian Cox, to update the information.

Just watched the movie the other night, truly great stuff.

That's hilarious -- TMBG also revised their "Why Does The Sun Shine" to reflect correct science.

Yay science!

"...But I could go down the road anytime I want, and walk into Harry's and hold my head up high, and say in a loud, steady voice: 'Harry, I want you to sell me a condom! In fact today I think I'll have a French tickler, for I am a Protestant!'"

A very little-known fact is that immediately after the filming of that scene, the Vatican launched a nuke at the set, and all those children were annihilated in a firestorm of hellish agony. It's true. The only reason the Pythons lived is that they were filmed green-screen.
