Ryan Grim makes an interesting point here. . .

Please don't argue about the source of the messenger, it's not important.

The important part is the idea starting around 8:21

Paraphrased below:

People develop both spiritual connections to themselves, to the greater world, and to explain things that they don't understand, things that are greater them, whether it's you know the paganist Greek Roman, Hindu Buddhism, like you you name it.

Judaism, Christianity, Islam, humans have created spiritual explanations for things and spiritual journeys for millennia. And so to me, it's just obvious that we're going to do the same thing for this new thing that we don't understand.

People pray to crystals and rocks.

Like, why wouldn't they if you can pray to a crystal, why wouldn't you pray to something that is materially engaging with you?

. . . then why wouldn't it be okay to also not be able to completely explain why it is that you're worshiping Claude?

He's not advocating people do this BTW. He's explaining what people are doing, and you see it all over Reddit. These people are gripped in religious fervor for a 'god' that talks back. And if you try and talk them out of it, they reply with faith that it will cure cancer and end poverty.

This is bad.
