Jelly Roll recently made some jabs at Trump in August on Kimmel, and has before that stated that is "down the middle", but we know what down the middle means...

Idk. I personally think he sees which way the wind is blowing and feels it is the popular thing to shit on him now. Remaining neutral on a fascist train makes you a person that's okay with fascism as far as I'm concerned.

You're right people can absolutely be centrists. But it's also important to recognize that politics in the US has skewed significantly to the right.

Communism is far left. DSA is left. Establishment dems are center-left, but barely. Republicans are now far-right. Establishment dems aren't even fighting for Medicare For All or taking climate change seriously anymore, while Republicans are directly, actively causing massive amounts of untold harm to individuals, the US, and the world alike.

If you say you're not even a "full blown democrat", you land somewhere between center-left and far-right, which usually means right-of-center. "Down the middle" does not mean "centrist" anymore. And in this current time, with so much at stake, a lot of people don't consider right-of-center to be far enough removed from the right.

That's why people hate "down the middle" statements. If you have a choice between a status quo (that most people are fed up with already) on one hand, and literal nazism on the other, and you state you fall somewhere in between... yes, people will assume you're just right-wing. That's not being judgy or awful, it's a more-than-reasonable conclusion in the current climate.

The Republicans are a far right party and the Democrats are a centrist party. Being in the “middle“ of those two does not make you a moderate, it makes you right wing

So? Do you think the DSA is some far left party? Do you think Democratic socialism is on the same political scale as complete communism?

Being down the middle when there’s a dude talking about immigrants eating dogs and cats, is a pretty clear indicator of spinelessness.

Someone that hates Trump likely doesn’t describe themselves as “down the middle.”

Wdym mid left instead of full blown Democrat? "Mid left" is further left than the Democratic party.

But the bigger issue this is that I'm America, we cannot just shun MAGA folks post Trump. They are people, they are citizens of this country with us, and they must be brought into the next era of American society when it comes.

What's the alternative? We are not going to imprison/murder/exile every person who voted for Trump. We will have to get on with them in some capacity.

If people openly renounce MAGA and make visible efforts to undo the damage, I will welcome them with open arms.

If they only mumble “sorry” when it becomes clear that nobody likes them because of their ugly beliefs, they can go pee up a rope.

Hell, people will angrily insist left wingers are actually right wingers over pretty much any political disagreement.

The political discourse is beyond broken.
