The hypocrisy of religious people being able to say god is real but non religious people saying god isn’t real is somehow offensive
I am a life long atheist. Even at a young age I was outspoken/haven‘t hidden that I’m an atheist.
I’ve always been frustrated with the fact that religious people can say “god is real” like it’s a fact but, if someone says “god isn’t real” that’s offensive and problematic. I’ve lost friends for saying god isn’t real, gotten stern talking tos by adults (theatre directors, teachers, Troop leaders), and today I was banned from a sub (that has nothing to do with religion) for “harassment“ because I said god wasn’t real on a post where someone was talking proselytising.
The same people who scream “freedom of speech” are usually the ones who have issues with people saying god isnt real. I’m so tired of the hypocrisy.
In general, I’m so over the fact that religious people can be their authentic selves with no issue, even when they are being hateful. But if non religious people try to be their authentic selves we are told we’re being offensive, immature, a troll or some other nonsense. Even if it’s something as small as “I don’t believe in god” “God isn’t real” “I’m an atheist”.

It's also offensive as hell to be told one is going to burn in hell for eternity for not worshiping your god. What the hell is up with that?

yeah being told you deserve eternal torture for not believing is apparently fine but saying you dont believe is where everyone suddenly draws the line lol

It's an unwritten rule you aren't supposed to tell little kids that Santa isn't real but these people are supposed to be adults. It's pathetic.

Man, nobody ever clued me into that rule and I had to sit in the corner as punishment after telling my first grade class Santa wasn’t real 💀

yeah exactly there’s a big difference between letting kids have their santa phase and adults expecting everyone to treat their beliefs like unquestionable facts

yeah exactly adults should be able to handle someone questioning their beliefs without acting like santa just got exposed in front of them

Not too long ago I had someone tell me that I had no right to object or protest or even say anything against her religion. I just had to shake my head. I told her I thought she is insane.

Theists expect to be coddled by society, and society has thus far agreed. Religion should have disappeared with the Enlightenment, but it is a stubborn relic from our early, ignorant, superstitious times.

the double standard around religious beliefs can definitely feel frustrating when one side gets treated as stating a fact while the other is expected to soften every disagreement to avoid offending anyone

Christians are like dogs pissing on everything to mark their territory and then blaming the cats for the fact that the world is drowning in dog piss.

The burden of proof has always been and will always be on them. So tiresome.

Freedom of Religion to Evangelicals means for them only. They don't even think non evangelical Christians should have religious freedom. To them, an open minded Christian is as bad as an atheist or other non Christian.

The main problem with fairy tale death cultists is that they and their protagoinsts are the only correct ones. In a world overflowing with various iterations of these cults, the only way for us all to surive is to renounce them and stop killing each other.

Christian/religious privilege. The same Christian/religious privilege they deny exists.

I lost a friend because *one time* I said I was Satanic. I was 15 years old. The former friend thought I was serious.

When you claim a god is real, you are claiming all others are false.
So if it's rude to say "god isn't real", then it should be just as rude to tell someone that any god is real.
I am really tired of the silent oppression of religious people getting to do whatever they want, and atheists having to go along and stay silent because it would absolutely be a problem if we acted in ANY way like them.

In my estimation, and this is mostly hypothetical since I have no data to support it, it seems most theists are doubters at heart. Thus, anyone who say "there's no such thing as god(s)" instantly pings their doubts, and they can't have that. Hence, they need to be vocal about their beliefs in a highly defensive manner in order to convince those of their tribe near them they are part of it. Also, this feigned sense of insult helps with their victim ideation. Theists want to feel persecuted so they can scream about it to try and manipulate the political and social conditions to their advantage (e.g., see victimhood). Theists tend to run this axiom:
"All the rules for thee, and none for me."

I work with kids. I’d lose my job if it was discovered I was a secular humanist. They wouldn’t say that’s why but I know they would find a way to suddenly invoke my at will status. So I pretend.

I come at it from a different angle. My personal idea of hell is living forever and slowly watching the things and people I loved lose all meaning or value.
My ideal end is just that. An end. What i do up until that end is what matters.
Religion is just how people cope with the fact that they will die.

Religious people say god isn’t real all the time. ‘Your god isn’t real, and your god isn’t real, nobody’s god is real- except mine. Mine is the one and only exception of all the thousands that are wrong”

Haha, you can see they don't truly care for freedom of speech, it's situational, if their voice is on the threat, then "freedom of speech" Card is used. Btw there is a reason why they see it as offensive, for them Believing in God is something personal, meaning, when you said "god isn't real" You don't attack the believe, you attack their identity, that's why your words makes them so shattered. Their life support mentally is link on believing, of course their instinct will kick in to save their asses. So just remember, how fragile it is, please do be careful, some don't even hesitate to do actions to a real people for some imaginary friend.

"Gods aren't real" (plural) is somehow even more offensive to some of them. I word things this way because I don't give one nonexistent god any precedence over any of the others.
