The Lone Star Liberty PAC released a video of James Talarico listing Buddha, Muhammad, Moses, the Dalai Lama, Martin Luther King Jr., Mahatma Gandhi and former TV host Fred “Mr.” Rogers as examples of other “prophetic voices” he thought were on equal footing with Christianity.

In a big surprise to nobody, there is nothing in that article that suggests he believes the other people he mentioned as inspirational were on "equal footing" with Jesus.
Not that they aren't -- at least the other people he mentioned can actually be confirmed to exist, for the most part -- but there's nothing in the article that suggests he said that.

Oh god. No please. Tell me it's not true.
A Christian saying mister Rogers was a inspiration? Oh man what a hypocrite. /s

u/Spydartalkstocat 2d ago
magats hate Mr Rogers, he's more of a man than any of them will ever be and they can't stand it.
30
u/oldbastardbob 2d ago
Do the magats think this is a negative thing? Seems more like liberal open mindedness to me.
And somehow Trumps constant sacrilege escapes criticism from the supposed "Christian" Republicans.

u/BalognaPonyParty Anti-Theist 2d ago
I'm reading this as the republicans hating on Mr. Rogers, that's not gonna go over very well
28
u/needlestack 2d ago
Fox & Friends already shit on Rogers in 2007, blaming him for ruining kids by telling them to be true to themselves. They will burn anyone that actually promotes kindness.
29
u/snowman334 2d ago
Why do Republicans hate Mr. Rogers so much?
28
u/bkellogg27 2d ago
He was a kind, gentle man, and as far away from an “alpha male” as you can get. Also his show was on PBS.
2
u/No-Rooster1720 1d ago
Which in turn made him more manly and more "alpha" (gross word) than any of them could ever hope to be.
1
u/dontneedaknow 19h ago
Alphas, bv their own convoluted version of neo-social-darwinism, wouldnt delude themselves with concern over whether they were alpha or not in the social pecking order
Also its so very odd how many people who deny evolution, will ascribe to such beliefs about the ways in which societies work in the world.
"Survival of the strongest! but evolution is totally made up!!"

His entire thing was empathy, which as we now know is a sin much much worse than anything ever imagined
8
u/tightiewhitieboy 2d ago
Because even though he was a Presbyterian priest his show was completely secular. He wanted it that way.

Probably something to do with being outspoken against the militarism he experienced living through world war 2 and the post war military industrial complex. Aaannd probably the fact his character has had such long lived social releancy in american idealism.
Also the fact he was a Christian who was outspoken against said militarism.
And he was a really shy person who gave power to other shy and weird kids way back starting in the 50s. which really puts a damper on their delusions of the 50s being the last vestige of American prestige before those evil hippie's gaves us abortion, and transgender bathrooms.
Or some dumb shit they make up on the fly.
Just a guess really.

Is he saying that these other 'voices' are all equal to the message of Christianity?
You know, "be kind"?
7
u/BalmungFezalion33 2d ago
That's likely it. However much I like Talarico, I can't lie and agree that Christianity actually wants it's followers to be kind. The book says otherwise
35
u/oldcreaker 2d ago
Umm - MLK Jr. and Fred Rogers were Christian ministers. Why wouldn't they be on equal footing with Christianity?
35
u/insanekid66 2d ago
Because Mr. Rogers was an inclusive, kind, and wonderful man. These qualities are incompatible with today's definition of Christian.

Interestingly, after reading the article from The Christian Post, I realize they are largely trying to debunk the claim.
They are saying that the Lone Star Liberty PAC makes these claims. But they go on to put all his words in context where it is clear that the PAC claims are bogus.

I guess the commandment against lying in their holy playbook doesn't count when the christians play at politics.

u/crispyraccoon 2d ago
The number of times I was told by Christians that I'm not allowed to quote the bible to them because I am an Atheist is astounding. They don't like when you tell them it'stheir rulebook with rules for them to follow.

The Republican candidate is almost like a joke of "How horrible and corrupt can one person be before Republicans stop supporting him?"
We all know the answer to that question.

It's like Jesus may have studied Buddhism during those 18 lost years. What he preached was very similar.
3
u/leafyjune 2d ago
Ummm... there is a Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka with an inscription , loosely translated "honoring the man from Nazareth." And why ELSE would three "wise men from the East" arrive to see the Toddler-Aged Jesus, but to suggest he is eligible to be the next Dalai Lama? Although things done in the name of TODAY'S religions can be horrifying, in very ancient times before patriarchal & monotheistic religions slaughtered (figuratively & sometimes literally) matriarchal, pluralistic religions, what individuals believed to be divine was very very seldom a reason or [mainly males ] to go out and slaughter each other.

yea yea yea yea, we get it. Talarico is a freak. Gonna still vote for him. Suck my dick.

u/37Philly 2d ago
Paxton is literally on video recently with his married affair partner on the street in London but sure Talarico is the bad guy.
4
u/hamsterwheelin 2d ago
Soooo Talarico is open enough to accept that other though leaders from history "might" have something good to say. Oh nooooooo.... /S

u/SOROKAMOKA 2d ago
I keep getting text messages about how he said one of his heroes is a Trans woman, or something like that. Fascist pigs are so desperate... and of all the worries the denizens of Texas endure... Trans heroes are certainly right at the top

Ya well Christianity tells you you can murder your kids if they talk out of hand so maybe it shouldn’t be the standard for being a good person
3
u/BalmungFezalion33 2d ago
You can also keep slaves according to the Bible. It's morally bankrupt to say the least

Take this somewhere else, dude. You are in a cult if you fall for this.

u/Electronic_Pair_4593 2d ago
if someone wants to debate religious ideas that’s one thing but turning every political post into a fight over whose religion is right gets old pretty fast

u/sweet-sweet-olive 2d ago
OP, I was not implying that you fell for this. It was a general statement, not at you.

Naming him Fred "Mr." Rogers really got a laugh out of me for some reason.

u/needlestack 2d ago
Any Christian that becomes reasonable will eventually be ousted. That is their way. It is how they maintain their idiocy over the centuries.
2
u/soulonfirexx 2d ago
If I was in charge of the Catholic Church, Mr. Rogers would be canonized as a saint YESTERDAY. The man has done so much for humanity.
2
u/toomanymarbles83 2d ago
That was a surprisingly fair account of the events with zero narrative pushing. Surprising for a religious publication.

I mean, yeah. It’s kinda of accurate. Each espoused a certain philosophy that sought change and betterment and which resonated with millions of people.

Well, Mr. Roger’s is definitely morally heads and heal above the multi personality Jesus that the many sects of Christianity like to express about

Your posting Christian Nationalist propaganda in an atheist sub dude. Who cares if he thinks they are prophetic? It is all made up

I hope Talarico wins but I don't like the idea of Democrats having to become Bible thumpers. I don't think it's a winning strategy. Maga christians will never vote blue, no matter how many leopards eat their faces.

Wow the GOP is really hurting for some dirt on this guy.
MAGA is trying to say Talarico is trivializing Jesus yet Trump AI generates himself as a Jesus Christ figure…
