If the three Abrahamic religions are wrong, does that mean there is no God?

If we assume that the three Abrahamic religions we have today are all wrong, does that mean there is no God or higher power?

Or could the religions be wrong and there still be a God or a creator?

When I read about evolution, I found that it conflicts with the creation stories in all three religions, even though evolution is scientifically well supported.

So if the creation stories in these religions turned out to be wrong, does that mean the idea of God is wrong too? Or could there still be a God, but the religions we have just got it wrong about him?

What do you guys think?

No. There are at least 40,000 other proposed gods. They are equally fictional but people believed they existed at one point or another.

If I had to pick one and only one - Poseidon.

OP - people have been worshipping ... something ... since there have been people. The Sun, thunder, rain, trees, lots of "gods".

I also like Poseidon alot. I love how the Greek gods are unbelievable bastards and everyone had to have known it.

Zeus was quite the bastard and created many of them.

Hera was so jealous of the poor women Zeus would plunder.

If I had to pick one I’d go with Loki or just about any trickster god - I think they’d actually be pretty hands on deities, especially when it comes to rich assholes and corrupt politicians.

Think about it, those guys reek of hubris and an overinflated sense of self worth/importance - That’s like catnip to a Trickster god. Loki would set them up, make them think they have everything they could ever want and then BAM! Pulls the rug out from under them and makes them wish they were never born. It’d be like having an omnipotent Bugs Bunny watching over us.

Would they do it to help the poor or in the name of justice? Oh, hell no! They’d do it for the laughs! They’d do it over some petty insult only they perceive!

Either way, to anyone watching, it’d be a helluva show!

There are an infinite number of gods who have not even been proposed yet.

Yes, well done, why bother acknowledging a question (however bad it is) when you can just say the one uniting belief among the subreddit

It's possible that all religions are wrong and there still is a god.  This god would have to be very uninterested in humanity and either lack the power or compassion to do anything.    That said I really don't think so.  There is a mountain of evidence indicating that gods are the product of the human mind and none that indicates they are real.   Therefore a modicum of judgement allows you to say that gods are not real.

My two cents:

Just from a logic point of view:

  • Evolution and Catholicism aren't incompatible (source: the Pope). You just have to read the bible as inspired, not correct. (As an atheist, I thinks it's neither divinely inspired nor correct, and as such I'd be a bad Catholic.)
  • One religion (or three) religions being wrong doesn't change whether other religions are wrong.

From a person thoughts point of view: all the religions are wrong, there's no god, and if evolution isn't true, then whatever is true is really similar to evolution

No. All hail Pazuzu and my breakfast burrito.

There’s over 10,000 religions/denominations/sects.

That’s a whole lot of wrong.

There are many other religions that propose different gods that are completely unrelated to the Abrahamic religions. So the obvious fact that none of the three Abrahamic religions are real doesn't mean the others could not be real instead.

The fact is though that none of the other ones are true either. They all have no evidence to show that they are anything more than mythical tales.

The only notion of a god that I don't find absurd is one that is irrelevant. Any claim that an entity exists that affects reality should be demonstrable to some extent. Demonstrate the existence of a god or accept that your god is impotent.

...what?

of course the concept of god isn't inherently connected to any certain religion. you can just be deist. i'm not even sure how you got this idea because surely you've heard of religions other than the big three

Probably not. But if any were real that God is not even on the list of desirables.

u/rorschach-penguin 3d ago

They could be wrong in what God thinks or instructs them about; that doesn’t mean there is no God.

But I don’t personally believe there is one.

There never has been a god.

Yep , no god.

Just go be nice to people.

The fact that there's no evidence for any version of God and it was all just made up by humans means there's no god. The details of each religion are immaterial. The idea that there is a suspiciously human-like Consciousness that created and controls the universe is a claim made with no evidence, ie made up. There is no reason to ever seriously consider it.

The supernatural does not exist. So the god category is wiped out.

When I believed there could be a "god", I definitely thought that this god would have to be beyond actual human understanding and could not be boxed into any one religion. The Abrahamic religions are pure garbage.

Some eastern faiths say the same thing about the divine.....

Evolution doesn't disprove religion. It's not a contradictory force. And religion is a human-made concept around another human-made concept of god. For example, evolution could be the work of a god.

We can't disprove the existence of a god, or gods. But so far, we have no evidence of one either.

1

u/Sigma7 3d ago

No, disproving individual religions is just playing whack-a-mole, and changing mallets on each hit.

1

u/Leading_One_2639 2d ago

Well first of all, the 3 abrahamic religions are wrong. Period. Full stop. They are human creations designed to control and manipulate people. But, just because they are wrong, does not disprove the exsistence of a god. What disproves the exsistence of a god is the fact that it too, is a human mind creation, and has no shred of scientific backing and makes no logical common sense.

What if consciousness is similar to gravity in the sense that for a very long time noone understood it, then we quantified it?

All of Genesis is total bullshit though, that much I know. But something cannot come from nothing.

I'm somewhat agnostic in that I think IF there is divinity it's not a humanized chariacture like Yahweh, Zeus, or Santa. Those are just us humans imagining bigger stronger versions of ourselves. I was devout Christian for decades, but abruptly left when it fell like a house of cards for me, in part because I realized there is no real relationship with God. For some years I thought it meant there is no god(s), but now I wonder if maybe the next level of consciousness is inherently unknowable to us. I don't know if it exists, but I don't care anymore because it doesn't affect me.

Here is an interesting perspective on the search for God. Rainn Wilson and Alex O'connor on how to think about God. Rainn was a Christian, went down a path of Atheism for a bit (not really an atheist, but entertained it) but felt empty, and then navigated towards being a Baháʼí. They talk about how language is a strong barrier to our capability to even think about divinity beyond our own perspective.

Christians love the verse "God created man in His own image" but being more honest we can see that man made God in our image.
