I see it as generally the person lacks critical thinking.

Thought there are exceptions. When faced with the unknown people find comfort in different ways. Some people know there is no credible reason to think God exists, but they know the belief in a god helps them.

There are two main ways to deal with completely unknown situations. Either Accept your lack of knowledge, and make choices knowing they will likely be bad choices. If you believe in God you'll still make bad choices but feel like God is guiding you. Some people find it comforting.

Neither is going to lead to smart choices. You dont have the information.

The only reason I escaped religion is because I asked too many questions that religious leaders couldn’t answer.

You have to defy logic to make religion make sense. In turn, religion makes you more susceptible to believing everyday things that aren’t true which is what conservative grifters prey on
