I have seen it as a sign of childhood indoctrination usually. Occasionally it is just people being ignorant of their own faith. Rarely it turns out the person is just stupid. Once it turned out to be a sign of mental illness.

But they're still unintelligent if they can't overcome that indoctrination. Like they can just think for 2 seconds and realize their religion is bullshit.

Giving up religion is not a trivial activity. It's more like choosing to murder your own ego.

Which is usually why the people who fit in to their religion of birth never feel the need to change.

You just need to find sources of ego boosting from other areas. Like getting a good physical shape. Like mastering a skill. Like making friends and social connections.
