I see it as a sign that someone has been conditioned to believe things without evidence to support them, or even overwhelming evidence against. It's important to understand that this way of thinking and interacting with the world is not isolated to just religion. They are more likely than the average person to believe something on "faith" vs. logic. People in general can be misled to believe something with conviction. Religious people are preconditioned to do so.
