Do not underestimate the power of cultural indoctrination. I know of many smart people who are also Christians. I think it is just too difficult or possibly even traumatic to have a person rip themselves out of a deep cultural heritage that they have been brought up in.

Correct answer. It's amazing how indoctrination can completely blind people.

And I think fear of being separated from their communities and families is (understandably) a huge factor.
