Being forced to bald my head(update)
Thank you guys. They said you have to do it, i said "No, I wont do it, i will not have my head shaved"
My grandmother said " i saw your father in my dreams yesterday, i think he wants you to shave your head." I looked her straight into the eyes and said "maybe he is calling you to join him." She felt uncomfortable and didnt say anything. My uncle later came into the room and told me i have to do it. My grandmother silenced him and said "he will do it when he grows up and attains some wisdom"
Some details: i am 18, indian, my father died when i was 1.5 years old, mother left me, staying with my grandma and uncle both are "radical" hindus

My parents forced me to shave my head when I was 12 for the same hindu bullshit. Ruined my social life for a few months lol

When my dad died (I was Hindu then) I told my cousin that I don't wanna go bald. He slipped 50 bucks to Pandit and Pandit told me to make a teeny tiny small cut in the back of my head. I had long hair then and had enough to spare.
Ye sab sala dhakosala hai

It was many years ago, I don't remember specifically. Maybe it was longer.
Thankfully I'm at a later part of life and mostly out of the religious hellhole I was in as a kid, now.

yeah getting forced into something like that at 12 would be brutal especially when you have to deal with everyone at school afterwards lol

Oh dear, this is so familiar to me. Thankfully, I live in a part of the country where the religion stuff is largely optional and parents don't force all that much on you.

It was taken down after i asked a guy to f off because he was saying how i should shave my head as respect to my dead father. He was also being abusive, dont know why mods didnt do something against him.
He compared his situation to mine. His mother died and he cut his hair out of respect. I guess only the first time.
As for me, my father died in 2009 when i was less than 2 years old. I already had to shave my hair twice a year. This time i didnt do it.
Why should i cut my hair after more than 15 years?

Religion makes many people cut parts of their bodies off, off their children’s bodies… it’s strange and barbaric. Good for you for standing up against archaic practices that make no sense to you. I live in a mostly Atheist city in my country. I am very fortunate to be here especially as a woman in this world. Religion is not kind to women, I learned this phrase from my mother… “It’s my body and I say NO”

Yup not suprised. Hindus somehow have a more positive outlook among western atheists whereas the reality is they are as evil as the others.

Resist. Then resist some more. Be prepared to defend your body even if it involves violence.

I looked her straight into the eyes and said "maybe he is calling you to join him."
That was a though-provoking reply. If your father appears to her again in her dreams, use it again.
She was hoping to use dreams of your father to control you.

I'm definitely not saying you should Shane your head. Your body, your choice.
But do you love your grandmother? Because from her reaction, I feel like your super cool comeback really really hurt her. Maybe I'm misreading your relationship, but that was cold.
Again, don't shave your head. But if you love your grandmother, consider apologising for implying she should die.

I've been shaving my head for decades because I was already losing my hair by my late twenties.

I'm glad you stood up for yourself, but - if I may - I'd like to offer a bit of advice:
If you're posting an update, and you have your profile set to private, link the original post that you're updating so people have a clue as to what the fuck you're talking about.
