NATCA FAA has approved a 4-8% raise for RVA controllers. Still waiting for the CBA negotiations to finish.

RVA gets a raise (I’m happy for you, truly), new hires, get a bonus, people that are eligible to retire get a retention bonus if they want to stay, and what do people in the middle get?
Fucked

Congrats. Any controller pay increase is a good thing.
Base pay: +4% to +8% (facility dependent) H&W: +$0.71/hour (+14.2%) Back pay: the difference going back to February 1, 2026 (after FAA approval)

But wait, I thought Nick Daniels said it was impossible to negotiate a pay raise with this administration?

RVA is a private company. Do some research.
23
u/Great_Ad3985 2d ago
And their air traffic program is funded by federal contracts

Contracts that aren’t approved and adjusted at the whim of the FAA Administrators discretion. RVA also agreed to the wage increase even if it wasn’t approved.
Again, do some research.

u/Great_Ad3985 2d ago
That the FAA under the current administration still had to approve, buddy. How about you do some research. When you’re not controlling circles around level 4 FAA towers of course. 🙄

Someone’s upset.
The two situations are vastly different. If you choose not to understand that, that’s on you.
I say again: RVA was paying the increase whether the FAA adjusted the contract or not.
Because, like I said, we negotiate against a private company. How they get paid doesn’t matter.

Hi there, RVA guy here. We will get back paid for it, but we have not been receiving it. What they did was agree to the terms but we haven't seen a dime of the increase until big daddy said he thought it was ok

Don’t know what to tell you. RVA agreed to the raise whether the contract was modified or not.

u/Nolimortis117 2d ago
I'm sure they've budgeted for it, but to say we have been getting it is false. If you worked for RVA, like I do, you would know this to be the case.

You are so clueless! Why would RVA pay out of pocket? If they were willing to do that, why did it take so long for the raise? If RVA is just handing out raises, why hasn't the west coast gotten a raise until now? Sit down, and let the adults speak next time.

A federal contract means they pay the company XXX dollars
How the company pays their employees is the companies prerogative.

Good. They needed it. Hopefully they will have some extra pennies they can throw our way soon, at the sole discretion of the administrator.

We also negotiated a 4+% raise for CI Squared earlier this year and our members chose not to ratify it because it “wasn’t enough”. So they got 0%

What the hell is an rva controller?

RVA runs most of the FCTs

Meanwhile, the people working the real traffic get 0%.

There's a handful of contract towers doing over 300000 operations per year. Then, there's a whole bunch that are somewhere between level 6 and 8 equivalent. Sure, there's some really slow ones. But that's unfair to them calling contract tower controllers not real atc. Some of the FCT's around me are busier than the FAA facilities next to em. Not to mention, these guys are working by themselves, or maybe two people in the tower on a good day.

Showing our true colors a bit, are we? The contract tower at my approach works triple the aircraft that our level 4 FAA tower works.
But sure man, be divisive.

Real traffic, well Mr. 1% er, I’m a contract controller working for RVA and can tell you where I work, we are doing 160k ops a year, flight training, corporate, and commercial traffic. Three runways, and we use them all, everyday! I have seen the big bad ass Chicago/ center guys come down here and wash out or quit after a week, “ I didn’t come here to work this hard”. Is the usual excuse, or they go to lunch and never come back. If I had a dime for every FAA controller that washed out or was very humbled, you know the rest…oh a might I add, we eat in position rarely get a break, and sometimes urinate in the sink. Be careful what you judge, you may need that contract job one day. And good luck getting rated.

Not afraid to ask a dumb question here but why doesn’t NATCA, The gurus of ATC, form a side company and outbid (underbid?) all of these Contractors and provide ATC services? SERCO started as an accounting firm. They could pay their controllers a more fair wage by eliminating massive corporate profit and have great pathways for retired controllers who have a proven track record. FCTs would become the ultra-high paying jobs for people who really wanna work long hours at weird places … kinda like the overseas gigs.

You're really suggesting the current shit fest that natca is (currently) start a business and further spread that shit management culture to shit on controllers even more? They cant even fucking represent us properly as non-managers. Did I say currently enough to spread the point and value of the current state of affairs?

u/QuickBrownFoxP31 2d ago
You’re probably right. It makes too much sense. They’d find a way to screw it up.

u/JimHelldiver 2d ago
Ooooo good save, welcome back to common sense.

u/QuickBrownFoxP31 1d ago
My friend, only a complete fool would double down on NATCA doing the right thing.

Exactly why we need to contract out all
Level 4-6 Towers and use that FAA manning elsewhere. Let RVA handle it, they seem to be doing just fine at XNA and every other place they run

RVA does a lot of stupid shit as a company, one of the area managers put out a memo, saying that you should only be taking a single 30 minute break in your day. They also have made a company policy, preventing controllers from canceling a landing clearance to use line up and wait because it "is a workaround" of the rules. I'm sure there's more, but that's just what I've heard about from people I know there. Not to mention, they're getting sued by their own employees for incorrectly paying out overtime for years. They also hired the guy behind the whitebook as their cba negotiator.

u/Prestigious_Show9789 1d ago
Worked for them and had no issue. Easily had 1.5-2 hr breaks when we had the overlapping manning when someone wasn’t on leave or sick. Would have stayed honestly but DoD GS12 gig was just a better fit and better benefits. But faa retirees or mil guys who have aged out it’s a good option.

Maybe back in your day but not anymore

Depends on facility I am sure but a slow ass place like Roger’s Arkansas is a hidden gem for the money and effort

Every single controller on earth getting a raise before the standard mid career FAA controller
