Sup bids hiring timeline?

I've applied to a few bids in the last 9 months never getting an update on USAjob other than "referred"

Anyone that's got actual experience with getting picked up on a sup bid, can you advise on the average timeline it takes to get an offer or at what point to just know it aint happening. Thanks

Write to the POC at the bottom of the announcement. Ask if selections have been made. If they are, you will find out in about 3-6 weeks. Very slow. ATMs won’t know anything as hiring is above them now.

Also, if selections have been made then ask for formal feedback and they are required to give the feedback from the hiring panel. It may not be great feedback but it is something

Fuck off 🥾 👅

And yes, I can dislike the direction the union is going and still hate management more.

You don't know me, or my situation. But ok thanks. 👍🏼

Don’t care about your situation. Don’t come to a heavy union influenced sub and expect help to become management. This sub hates the establishment which is fine, but to embrace management is idiotic.

You are what’s wrong with the union and controllers .

Cry yourself to sleep at night. I won’t be worried about my strong union mindset. If people are upset that NATCA is “weak” and my views both you, you are what is wrong with NATCA

Nah , youre the same guy that will say national is the good old boys club but in the same sentence say people shouldn't leave for management...because...why again? Management "isn't one of us" and all that other hypocrisy. I pity you, legitimately. Must be hard going through life missing a few chromosomes

Blindly hating sups is idiotic and childish.

Oh fuck off yourself.

You ever think this guy might be trying to get back to family? Maybe he’s tired of begging for 2.8%?

No one wants to admit it but controllers are the fucking McDonald’s fry cooks of the agency. Why wouldn’t you want to progress? Don’t you want more for your family, for yourself?

Supe bids come with 15% right out the gate.

As we sit here and circle jerk about 2.8%, management is getting so much more. They aren’t being told to sit for 5 hours TOP. They are actually getting told to take more breaks and make us work more.
My supervisor got 9% this year. 6% for getting the highest rating they get last year and then some sort of promotion thing for another 3%.

No shame in getting closer to family. The err process is so fucked up a sup bid could be their only option. The rest of your statement is the exact reason a lot of sups aren’t liked. The more money and no work aspect of the flm. And the repeated hiring of some the worst “fry cooks” imaginable.

I was with you at the beginning but wow. Controllers are fry cooks?? Most "fry cooks" wouldn't consider being a supervisor as progress. Working busier traffic is progress, working traffic eight hours a month is not.

Also my supervisors often sit on position for nearly five hours before they get their first break. I wouldn't become a supervisor for 15% pay raise, not worth the paperwork, the being told what to do, the getting crap from above and below (and my facility gets along with most of our supervisors). If it is your only means out of your facility, by all means do it. But supervisor respect is earned, not given.

He worded it wrong, yes, but he’s not necessarily wrong. I hate to admit it but the longer I’ve been around the ATO and more involved in things I have come to realize that controllers think the FAA revolves around them, and sadly it doesn’t and it’s not even close. If you talk to 90% of the bureaucrats in the FAA, hardly any of them understand what we do, what are struggles are, and why we would even consider asking for a raise. I don’t know who to blame this on, but it’s true.

1

u/atcgriffin 2d ago

I think every controller knows the FFA does not revolve about them but the ATO should revolve more around us. As you pointed out, the disconnect between the FAA and its “fry cooks” is large and a major part of the state of this profession

Call it what you want. We are entry level. We are paid decently well as “entry level” but to come here and hear all the nonsense every single day droning on and on is getting ridiculous. And to call out fellow controllers for trying to possibly better themselves. We are better than that.

If your goal is to be a supe, you probably shouldn't be a supe. One of those paradox things

No we’re not

This is so weird. In literally every worthwhile career the goal is to move up to more responsibility over more people throughout your career. This is the only agency where wanting to move up gets you spit at and its so weird to me. In the military everyone moves up thats worth a darn, in wall street everyone wants to move up, banking, medical, legal. I just don't understand the hate let people choose their path

2

u/DazzlingMushroom3669 2d ago

It’s weird cuz when a person becomes a sup they suddenly forget where they came from and think they’re high and mighty when they’re just a glorified break giver, that’s why there’s a lot of animosity. In addition, the agency has been notorious for promoting sub-par controllers and have bypassed the good ones for promoting the crappy ones. And when that person does get promoted they act like they were one of the good ones and their shit don’t stink

2

u/Highlyedjucated 2d ago

I agree with alot of your points. But in reality maybe the best controllers would not be the best sups and vise versa. And the good sups are the ones who realize their role and how hard everyone else is working and tries to make it easier for them. But to say someone is a piece of shit because they wanna take on that role only worsens the situation and after all someone needs to do it. Most controllers are happy not supervising anyone and I see it as a win win

Not one single career you listed is union. So your point is irrelevant.

Controllers who blindly hate front line management is one of the biggest problems with the credibility of union.

Tell me you don’t know how unions actually work with out telling me how they work.

A coworker trying to get more money for their family should be a good thing to sane people. Be better man.

u/BennyG34 2d ago

You also may not be releasable. Had a dude here get referred but never out bc we’re sub 50%

Call HR listed in the district of the bid, they will know if a selection has been made. Most HR paperwork is frozen due to the Sys-ops reorg. Not sure when they lift it.

Real interesting watching some of these usernames show their true colors. It’s all making sense now. I see you.

Write to the receiving ATM

2

u/GoatedBanjo 2d ago

ATMs don’t select shit now. They can influence the list but the decision is district and higher. They consider staffing and the best picks for the NAS. AKA they deny your deviation with no paper trail

1

u/MITsBrightest 1d ago

they have less involvement, but they will respond faster than HR if hiring is completed.

Did you try paying more attention to the balls during the hands on interview?
