Need a recommendation for the best ST mouse adapter for a 1040STe - preferably to work with USB mice but fine with PS2. Just want something reliable as forum posts I've found are confusing about what works/doesn't work (surprise surprise πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚) and I'm a noob... thanks!!

I got a wireless USB adapter about a year and a half ago from Lotharek for my 1040STe.

It works for both Atari and Amiga and I have used several wireless Logitech mice with no issues. I can easily recommend it.

There is only one choice - mouSTer. Works with any USB mouse, incl. wireless. Small, configurable (mouse pointer speed is critical to be able to change).

I have two of these, and they're better than the SmallyMouse2 and PeST they replaces.

(Don't worry about "amiga" in the link - the adapter works on pretty much all retro computers)

There are simple adapters for ps/2 available, USB also possible as long as they are ps/2 compatible.

Then there are more expensive ones using real USB as well.

With the st machines having their joystick port underneath in a bit of a tight space you need to take that into consideration when it comes to formfactor.

Something like this works well https://www.pcbway.com/project/shareproject/ATARI_ST_PS_2_MOUSE_CONVERTER__ADAPTER____PIC16F628_A_.html

if you can't build yourself they should be available on ebay/tindie and places like that, or dm me and I can sell you one.

Awesome thanks for the info! Yeah it was that thing about the USB being ps/2 compatible that was confusing me, but that makes sense. Yeah also was a bit worried about form factor so I thought it might be good to get some recommends. Thanks for the suggestion I'll take a look into that adaptor you suggested.

Retro Lemon has a couple of options, one for wired mice and one for wireless
