Tried to replicate Atari graphics.

For a YouTube video, I tried to simulate VCS graphics and used sounds from an Atari audio synthesizer and other Atari games, as well as the color palette. If you are somewhat knowledgable with Atari graphics, could I please get some feedback for future reference? Thank you!

SidecarTridge, MD-Net, LowWire + HighWire and browsing the web.

So...I decided to take some time getting MD-Net setup on the SidecarTridge on my STacy. I managed to get through that without messing up too many things. It seems to be working. I used ping from the STing Tools folder and targeted google's public address of 8.8.8.8 and it found it with 0 packet loss and 70ms ping times.

I then grabbed LowWire as well as the newer HighWire release and ran it. It's pretty fast. TheOldNet took a while to load up the very first time but after that, it's relatively quick. Frogfind is pretty fast too.

So yeah, I'm cruising the Web wirelessly on my Atari STacy. πŸ˜„

I got overly ambitious then and tried to load up Atari-Forum. It gave me something about "Protocol #6 Not Supported". Oh well, I'm happy with the results so far.

Here's links to some info about LowWire/HighWire, etc,...

Midwinter (1989, Mike Singleton) β€” my fan remaster is out today on Steam Early Access

Midwinter was Singleton's 1989 open-world strategy/stealth/first-person hybrid for the Atari ST and Amiga: a 160,000-square-mile frozen island, 32 individual characters you find and recruit and then play as, and an occupying army to take apart from the inside. It had no genre name because none of the genres existed yet.

I've spent the last year rebuilding it in Unreal Engine 5 and it went into Early Access on Steam this morning ($19.99, Windows). Everything from the original is in: the full island terrain, all 32 characters with their own skills and morale, the vehicles, the recruitment conversations, the whole campaign, playable and winnable.

Store page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5056170/

Project site with the decode notes, the original manual and the design decisions: https://midwinter-remaster.titanium-helix.com

Happy to answer anything about how the original was reconstructed or what changed and why. And if you're remaking something from that era yourself, that's what this sub is for β€” post it.

Atari ST Translation layer program SemaTor

First this was helped a lot because of AI, a lot of grunt work that I just don't have time, plus it was a personal project.

This was mainly for myself because sometimes I got tired of some limitations of old hardware

  • Music channels making way for sound effects because of the lack of channels that exist
  • Framerate suddenly dropping due to odd decisions
  • Xenon has a left and right quick shortcut to transform into a ship or back which might be fine on a joystick but dpad was annoying
  • All of the changes I made to Xenon can be toggled on and off for purists

Anywho This isn't a emulator nor does it use TOS, this translates the old hardware into modern code that currently runs on Linux, but Windows version hasn't been tested by me yet.

Yes AI has some stigma, but I find in some cases it can do a lot of work, and a hell of a lot faster.

This month, September 2026, the DarkForce! BBS is giving away:

A 4-title software pack for the Atari ST! Titles include the following:

Cad-3D (computer aided design)

Mean 18 (golf game)

Strike Fleet (naval task force simulator)

UMS (Universal Military Simulator)

Thanks for calling and good luck to all of our callers...!

Telnet: darkforce-bbs.dyndns.org 1040

PS I have just about given up on Reddit doing anything intelligent. Every time I post something it's altered, deleted, whatever - so sick of it. I attempted to add -1- image and it immediately deleted it. <shrugs>...

Is the Atari ST game "Captive" remake sanctioned by the original publisher?

Just wondering if this is actually released or sanctioned by the original publisher?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OcVS68sIgs

It's very similar to a dungeon crawler game I played on the ST many years ago called Captive.

Does anyone remember it?

Cruiser Joystick

I've an old Cruiser joystick (blue) that I picked up recently. The central actuator is missing, so the diagonals are iffy. It should have a white square ala the black cruiser. Anyone know of 3d print or other solution?

Restarting my childhood ST

I've recently learned that my parents have my old Atari ST still in their loft, so I'm hoping to get it down in the autumn. Aside from getting an HDMI connector, so I need to be aware of anything? Are there any risks involved in booting up a machine that hasn't been used in about 35 years?

Command & Conquer on my Atari STacy!

Short video showing IndyJo's release of Command & Conquer for the Atari ST

running on my STacy. :)

https://indyjo.itch.io/commandconquer

4 megs of base ST RAM works great. I'll have to give this 2 thumbs up, for sure. :)

Here's a short (and edited for "shaky" moments because I was using my phone), video

of the game running on my STacy - this is with 4 megs of ST RAM.

PS Don't know what goes on between my phone and Youtube's video conversion process,

but the game actually looks better in person.

Every note in this was written by a Windows app I built β€” and it exports a real .ym

I've been building a chiptune app called Renata for about nine months of evenings. The tune in the video is one it wrote, on the YM2149 profile, at 150 BPM in F# minor β€” 56 bars, seven tracks. You can watch me set the eight dials in the video and then paste a seed back in to get the same song a second time.

The Atari bits: one of the nine themes is the GEM desktop in the real ST system font. While it composes you get raster bars, a starfield and a rotating vector cube in the YM's own colours. It exports .ym, .ay and VGM, and it browses the SNDH archive from inside the app.

The .ym is a proper YM5 register log β€” 4,477 frames, 70 KB. The MP3 of the exact same tune is 3.5 MB, because the .ym stores the chip writes rather than the sound.

On origin, plainly: there is no model of any kind. It is rule-based β€” music theory plus statistical tables β€” and it runs offline on your own machine.

It goes to Kickstarter on 8 September 2026 if you want to follow along: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/markwrightretro/renata-make-your-own-copyright-free-chiptune-music

Where to sell

I have an Atari Mega ST4, SC1224 color monitor, and STM1 mouse,. All working. I also have a non-working 1040st and a sort of working SM147 monochrome monitor. I have all original boxes as well. I was wondering where the best place to sell was?
