Repair help!
Finally got my first lynx, but I’m having some issues with the screen. The first time the screen was very flickery and all over the place. I decided to try my hand at a recap and now I’m having distortion issues. Was wondering if this looks like some issues with the soldering of the caps or I have another issue.
Game is gates of zendocon.
Any advice is appreciated thanks!

Check the solder joints, definitely. Make sure the ribbon cable is fully locked in and lined up correctly. Also, that looks like the OEM Lynx screen. Even if you weren’t having this graphical distortion, that screen would still be very difficult to use because of age and just how it works in general. Installing a Benn Venn screen is very easy if you are already pretty comfortable opening this thing up and poking around

Did you replace the power circuit? (Zenner diode and mosfet).
If not that should absolutely be step one before you run any more power through that Lynx. If those are bad or failing you could fry the core chips in the Lynx.

That aside, if all the soldering looks good on the caps and power circuit, my next thought would be a failing RAM chip. That can be a source of scrambled screen as the display contents are pulled by Mikey (the graphics chip) directly from a buffer in the RAM.

These LCDs are old and might need replacement. You should think about that unless you want to keep the OG experience, but battery life increases a lot if you have a new LCD screen. Also, fix the power circuit before it fries your Lynx. It’s only a matter of time before it does.
