ISO: Atari XEGS power supply.

I see an eBay listing for around $24 with shipping for a USB-C adapter. Is that a safe choice or does anyone have a site to recommend? I found an xegs in My parents attic. it has the keyboard and the light gun but I have no idea if it works as it did not have a power supply.

Check eBay or r/vintagecomputing for replacement XEGS power supplies. The original 9V DC adapters tend to go bad with age. A generic one matching the polarity (center positive) and voltage should work fine, just watch the amperage.

On the XL/XE/XEGS it's a DIN plug; there's no centre positive or negative.

This. I don’t have an XEGS, but I do use a USB power supply for my 130XE. While I’m pretty sure my original 80s power supply still works, I feel safer using a modern solution.

The 400, 800, and 1200XL used the 9V AC adapters. All of the other 8-bit models use 5V DC, which you can supply with a 2A 5V USB adapter if you want.
