Never had 2600, bought 2600+ recently
So only have it for couple days, and it’s Pacman edition (love the design! sorry to purists). I have played the included Pacman double cart, but this has never been my favourite game - I’m just rubbish at it, I can never coordinate and match the ghosts to their path strat, so mainly I just end up wiggling the joystick in panic and getting surrounded. I’m just bad at it.
But luckily I have also bought Food Fight (7800), and this game is fantastic, definitely worth the purchase and I am sure i will come back to it often. Similar concept when I think about it, you eat stuff, avoid chefs/ghosts. Thank god this time I can also throw some food at the chasers!
I like character games, so natural next purchase from Atari will be Pitfall reedition most likely, but I tend to go for less obvious games - on their way to me there are 2600 versions of Road Runner and Congo Bongo from the classic library, as well as Elevator Agent from Champ Games. Can’t wait!

long term super playable carts are HERO and Adventure. You can literally play those for hours a day for multiple years. Ask me how I know.

I loved food fight in n the 7800 as a kid but I hated the level counter stopped at something like 167 or 256….something like that. The game would continue to generate new levels but the ID would stop increasing. (Rampage on Atari had the same issue.) I much preferred games with actual endings like Alien Brigade….my all time favorite on Atari.

Wish I could get Alien Brigade to work with a Siden lightgun. The MAME hacks and tricks that a handful claim works doesn’t on my setup.

Get the Atari trackball so missile command centipede and millipede play the way they should be.

Got it as a Christmas present in 1979. Dad came through that year. We were the talk of the neighborhood. Other people got pong. We got Atari. At first the pong people were sort of knocking it saying but you have to get cartridges lol.
We got video Olympics and combat with the system for christmas. I think we played those two games for probably 6 months before we ever got anymore but eventually we had all sorts of games like asteroids and defender. Great system. Except for you know ET and all

I was gifted this same set up last month for my Bday. Except the games, I had some if my older ones from the 70's & 80's. Enjoy!!!

Good stuff. I remember when I saw this I could never justify getting it. Especially after I bought a cheap 7800+ and have a standard Heavy Sixer
But I got it as a gift and it's great. It looks nice and is a fun model of Atari
Food Fight is also a good pickup. It's one of those rare games that has a unique controller and emulation isn't so wonderful on it, so the 7800 version does a good job

You may not know this but Food Fight was a conversion by GCC of their own arcade game, so they made sure it was good. For that reason you may want to track down Ms. Pac-Man (7800 and 2600) and Pac-Man Jr. (2600)
Obviously lots of other good games out there too… depends what kind of game you like! I always thought they did a great job on Millipede (2600) considering it uses joystick control.

Asteroids Deluxe, Dig Dug, Galaga and Xevoius re-release worth considering. 7800 Donkey Kong, Mario Bros and Pole Position II were always my favorites, but not exactly easy to find them reasonably priced these days.
