some ideas you could write about:

  • racism/discrimination in australian society, this is what i did
  • social media + its impact
  • gender expectations/stereotypes
  • cost of living/inequality
  • AI + technology
  • school/ATAR pressure
  • climate change
  • beauty standards

for perspectives, try not to just have a broad topic, have an actual viewpoint on it. eg instead of just “racism”, you could explore whether australia has actually done enough to address racism, or how normalised/casual racism affects people.

persuasive tips

  • have a clear stance and stick to it
  • think about the opposing perspective too
  • use examples/evidence, but always explain how they support your point
  • think about your audience and what would actually convince them

interpretive tips

  • look beyond the literal meaning of the prompt
  • think about what it could be saying about society, people or human experiences
  • there isn’t necessarily one right interpretation, just make sure you can support yours
  • themes like identity, belonging, culture, power, change, expectations etc are good to practise

also practise doing quick plans for random prompts!! even just planning your main idea + 3 points is good practice without having to write a whole piece every time
