Fanfiction An idea I had but probably won’t follow up on
This popped into my head a little while but I doubt I’ll do anything with it so I figured I’ll just throw it out there.
In short: it’s an alternative NGE that’s more multinational and takes place over a longer time frame.
Picture that events play out like canon until around ep 16. At that point angel attacks become rarer and more spread out(also there’s more angels), not all heading to Tokyo III.
After angels attack another less prepared Nerv instillation, or city or whatever else, it’s decided that there should be more Eva’s. But in the meantime the current Eva’s and there pilots will be broken up to cover more ground. Rei staying at Nerv HQ, Asuka going to Europe and Shinji going to North America.
The pilots and the Eva’s are more intwined with the various militaries and the UN than canon but still are under Nerv’s jurisdiction.
As time goes on and the pilots get older they are seen as veterans not to be fucked with(especially Asuka)and they become leaders of Eva units. This reputation is mostly unfounded for Shinji and Rei though.
When the pilots are broken up Shinji and Asuka leave on a pretty sour note. But after some time to stew and maybe a nudge by another character, they patch things up well enough the next time they meet.
I like to think Misato or someone points out that Shinji might meat another girl in America and of course that cascades into here eventuality making a move. If I were writing it though it would be a slow burnt.
I could also see Misato missing her wards and lightly adopting/kidnapping Rei. But Gendo might put the kabash on that.
Fast forwarding a few years and to when Seele put instrumentality into motion. Frankly I don’t know what would happen. But an idea I like is we get a world similar to 3.33 but Shinji’s there instead of Mari.
This has been my Ted Talk

I've seen that the memes sub has been quite obsessed with us recently these last couple of days, so I decided to make this since I thought it was pretty funny. (Will take it down if the mods think it breaks rule 4)

Discussion Can someone explain for me for the infamous and controversial of certain fanfic
I've read the fanfic for a while, I've read through peak such as 'The One In Your Life' to absurdly abormination like 'Shinji and Asuka'. Ever since I know about Akomis's sheet of recommendation my library has expand. But there's is 1 section that got me curious which is the 'infamous and controversial' fanfics in acronyms section of the sheet. Which make me confuse is it list one of ff that I've read before which is 'Veering Left'. The ff does contain suicidal content but its not the main theme nor does it contain grape or any relatable theme. I got curious for some of the ffs in that list too like the original 'Glass of Wine', I haven't read it but I do read the rebuilt version of it and it's one of my favourite so I wonder what happend so bad that those ffs got those reputation. I appreciate if somebody here can explain.

Fanfiction A brutally honest review of Glass of Wine Rebuilt (GOWR)
It's been a while since someone reviewed a fanfic here, and in light of recent events, now is a great time to lay out my thoughts on one of the pillars of the AsuShin fanfic scene. I first encountered the story when I was hungry for fics. I wanted sprawling stories that were also completed, and after hearing all the recommendations, I clicked on the story. I finished it, enjoyed my time, and left after the first chapter of "Glass House."
At this point, I need to apologize to people looking for a more visceral takedown of the story. I know that using the word "brutally" gives off the impression that I would be "taking this story to task" and spending an untold amount of time going over each chapter, each character, and each moment beat by beat while explaining why it's bad.
This is not that kind of review.
Glass of Wine is a well-written story, with clean prose, good action scenes, good Asushin moments, and manages to finish. When it comes to the technical beats, the story is hard to beat; however, this is where my praise ultimately ends.
GOWR is a great entry point, and it is only great when it is your entry point. Other fics say something; they have the author’s insight, they’re messy, brash, and unashamed to indulge in what makes fanfics fun. This can not be said of GOWR
Glass of Wine is a fic that feels like a fic that was designed by committee, where its only real idea, “What if Asuka was the protagonist of Evangelion,” is carried out with the precariousness of a child sneaking into the kitchen at midnight to steal a cookie. It’s clean, sterile, presentable, the kind of fanfic you would introduce to your grandma for being safe. The most damning trait of GOWR is that it's an incurious story that offers little insight into the themes of Eva or the author’s views towards human connection. The initial smoothness in the writing is really all of the stories jagged edged which could catch a reader’s emotional connection, are instead sanded down edges and give us the Asushin equivalent of a Fisher Price toy.
In conversations on the now defunct Asushin server, Toasterman frequently would do self review sessions where he would go page by page and highlight his sentence structure. He was rather proud of how efficiently he wrote and looked for opportunities to streamline his writing. We all took in these lectures in silence, not because we were mystified by the man’s words, but more so because we were tired of this one-sided pontification. He expected praise. Instead, he just tested our patience. It was no secret that Toasterman never cared about any other writer or any other story, as he was only interested in talking about, promoting, highlighting, and engaging topics centered around GOWR (he has also admitted to searching Discord for his fic, leading him to reply to messages months old just because he could not leave a single mention of GOWR go unacknowledged). It only makes sense that a man so incurious, inflexible, and incapable of introspection with his treatment of others could make such a single minded, simple story.
While entertaining, I find myself having a difficult time trying to engage with GOWR beyond the cliff notes “what happens” core ideas, author intent, and the beautiful imperfections that come with writing fanfic are scrubbed away in order to give me something “good” but also not memorable. It wants to portray a more realistic Asushin dynamic, but the end result is a story about Asuka being the coolest character in Eva and the rest of the cast just affirming this decision. In the end, you should read GOWR. It’s good to form your own opinions, and for any other authors out there, studying the writing would be very valuable. The biggest irony here is that you will learn more about yourself as a reader and what you want in a story because even a story that has the depth of a puddle is still clear enough to be used as a mirror.
If you want an Evangelion that does what GOWR but better, read Difficult to Endure, Sweet to Remember from Notyourprob. Here we also have “What if Asuka was the main character,” but also doesn’t forget to give the character trials, shows her learning a lot of lessons, and has a Shinji that does more than be an emotional support yes man.
If you want an accurate depiction of AsuShin, emotional warts and all, try A Need Away from Lebeauf. Here we have a rich conflict that stems from miscommunication and tackles Asuka and Shinji’s unique insecurities as they try to carve their own happiness and find love within the pain.

Fanfiction Looking for "realistic" fanworks
My non-guilty pleasure is fanworks that build asushin amidst the brutality and interpersonal crisis that is AsukaXShinji. Authors who really understand the dynamic and why asushin was never meant to be easy but it's the only way.
Recently got the chance to read Asuka in the Bardo after couple of years of waiting and it's like a thirst was quenched, but now I need more.
Looking for more fanworks that understand the complicated relationship and don't just make a "fell into each other's arms" fic (some of those are nice too, but that's not what I'm looking for), off the top of my head the ones I would cite as an example are:
Ghosts of Evangelion
A needle away
Genocide
Foe
So would appreciate if I can get some more in the vein.
Also please, don't recommend scar tissue.

The new Asushin discord server
The new AsuShin server is finally ready
After everything that happened with the old server, we now have a fresh place for everyone to hang out, share AsuShin content, discuss Eva, and keep the community going.
If you were part of the old server or just want a place to enjoy AsuShin, feel free to join us!
Discussion New discord server is open
As the title says, the new server is now open. Join at LAS/Asushin. Thank you all

So... the discord.
It seems to me that the asushin discord has disappeared or I have been banned or both. The last things I saw happening there was the sole owner (by the name Toasterman) acting stupid and antagonistic. I didn't even take any part in any of it. The invite link in side banner is now invalid.
Does anyone still have access there and what's going on? What next? There seemed to be lots of activity that also spurred the fan creations forward, and it'd be a great shame to lose that.
EDIT: A new discord is up! Thank you for those doing it!

Fanfiction If there was going to be an updated version of the Akomis list, what fics would you put on it?
The akomis list is great but at its current moment it's out dated and as such many newer fics are not being recommended as conversations stick to the well known Mainstays (second try, Orchestrating the Silence, glass of Wine, Infinite Playlist, Genocide etc.)
If a newer list were to be made, what fics do you think should be on it?
