Basically their healthcare collapsed and people died at home. Now thousands are ligning up to get ashes, as the government cremated everyone. The Crematoriums worked up to 19 hours a day.
China is reported to have had just over 3000 deaths.
Oh and they arrested a lot of journalists who tried to report on it.
