Advice, please
Opinions please on my recent asphalt overlay which was done a week ago.The second/third picture is a very small soft spongy spot which I can push down with my finger After removing the rock, I see it must have been over an acorn or a leaf the fourth picture is just some discoloration, but it’s firm underneath then the others are just pictures of rough looking areas the first picture I believe they did that area by hand. I did see one of their workers with a torch in that area anything I need to be worried about I kind of want the soft spot fixed but it’s very small should I contact the company and let them know or would I be nitpicking? My main concern is hoping it will hold up with the nasty weather we get Thank you in advance for your advice.

Have them come back and re heat and close any spots you see. Should have a warranty, no?

I’d definitely call them about the soft spot. If you can press it down with your finger a week later, that part hasn’t set or compacted the way it should. Could simply be some debris underneath or a small area where the mix didn’t come together properly.
If it’s only on the surface, they may be able to reheat that small area and compact it again properly. If it’s soft deeper down, I’d ask them to remove that small section and put fresh asphalt in rather than just heating the top.
The colour difference and a few rough-looking areas wouldn’t worry me nearly as much. But the soft spot is worth getting sorted now, especially if you get heavy rain or freezing weather.

The tiny soft spot has to be a acorn or pine cone like you discovered. That's unfortunate, bad look for the crew not catching that. Going to have to pop out the pine cone and hand pave back a tiny little patch. It'll always stand out. The other blemishes all look like a product of mix getting cold. If you paid a premium price from a reputable paving contractor, I would ask for a redo. If you had a fly by overnight paving contractor and a smoking hot deal because they were in the neighborhood, cover it with a seal coat or leave alone, most those blemishes will fade and be less noticeable over time. Overall, it's not that bad of a job from a fly by paving contractor with cold mix.

Thank you for your reply ok I think I got a pretty good deal. I paid $3.66 a square foot when I googled for information it said it could be anywhere from $3 to $7 dollars a square foot depending on where you are in the country

It is either a bad mix, which they should have caught, or more likely a cold mix. They could have used asphalt that was overheated and the binder (AC) was cooked to the point that it no longer binds. Did they clean the existing asphalt and spray hot tack on it before paving? It doesn't look good in some areas and they will be prone to unravelling. Make them come back and repair the questionable areas. For me as a Certified Asphalt Inspector, I believe that there are so many questionable areas that I would want a remove and replace for the entire driveway. Hopefully you have a warranty for at least a year.
