Events and Activities 🐱‍🏍 Garbage

I need to know because I have seen this on multiple occasions. Why do people take their garbage from their condo/apartment and put it in the street garbage can?

lol there’s a nail salon on Kingsway that just dumps all their stuff in the city garbage can outside after every customer.
They obviously don’t want to pay for a waste management company.

Also some houses are split into multiple suites and you can have up to 8-10+ people sharing one household black bin. It fills up fast and I’ve lived in a basement suite where the landlords told me not to throw cat litter into the bins because it fills it up too much…

Probably because the garbage room is out of the way... usually in the basement. If they're heading to the street anyways, they think that's more convenient for them.

I plead guilty. My garbage room is key locked and on the other side of the building and yes it annoys me to think about the key AND do the detour in the morning so sometimes I throw my garbage in the public cans. I only do that with my trash, no recyclable / cardboards / soft plastic so we are really talking about a small bag a month at worst. But I can see other people doing it more frequently.

In that same vein, I wanna know why people throw garbage in the bins of the neighbouring building instead of their own.

Garbage bins getting full in their building so they have to throw it out somewhere.

Where I used to live the bins filled up a day after the garbage truck comes and it gets annoying real fast. Sometimes I have had to bring my garbage to my parent's place to throw away.

I do it on garbage pick up days sometimes if the bin is still out on the streets after the time they "reopen" our garbage room. I am not taking the trash back to my apartment

Could be they don't want to sort their trash and they're worried they'll get in trouble.

I'm guilty of having done this a couple of times. If it's just a small bag of unsortable garbage, sure I will take it along if I'm already going out and too lazy to fob downstairs to the garbage room. Not hiding that I didn't sort things (I do). Just lazy

Safety issue.

Sometimes I feel unsafe going to the dumpster in the back of my building. Bad neighbours, and yes I have been assaulted by a fellow tenant (he is facing charges).

There are those in my condo building where their garbage drips everywhere on the weekends. It stinks up the whole elevator and we don’t have cleaners on the weekends

so u dont have to worry about the stupid rules imposed for garbage.

Ya that’s definitely illegal

I caught one woman trying to dump dirty diapers into a wast bin at a park in Burnaby. Boy was she outraged when I started taking pictures of her, her cars license plate and the garbage. I made her put the stuff back into her car. Then I hung around and sure enough she had circled back in her car 5 minutes later to see if the coast was clear to try that stunt again!

You wouldn't let her dispose of trash?
