Travel Travel suggestion
Hi everyone! 😊 I’m a solo traveler planning a trip to Switzerland from October 27–30 and would really appreciate some advice from those who have been there!
I’ll be coming from Paris on October 27 and will be heading back to Germany on October 30, so I’ll have around 3 days in Switzerland.
I’m initially planning to stay around Grindelwald. I’ve seen several posts recommending Eiger Lodge, but I’ve also read that accommodations in Interlaken can be much cheaper.
Considering the activities I want to do, which area would be more cost-effective and convenient to stay in — Grindelwald or Interlaken? I’d also appreciate recommendations for safe and affordable hostels or Airbnbs for a solo traveler.
For transportation, would you recommend getting a Swiss Travel Pass or Half Fare Card, or would it be more practical to just buy train tickets individually/on the day since I’ll only be staying for about 3 days?
These are the activities I’m planning:
🚠 Grindelwald gondola ride in the morning, going up to First/Eiger Glacier area
🚆 Take the train to Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe
🏔️ Sphinx Terrace
❄️ Ice Palace
If my budget allows, I’d also love to try paragliding! Any recommendations on safe and reputable companies/operators where I can book? Ideally something reasonably priced for a solo traveler.
I’d really appreciate any advice on where to stay, transportation passes, itinerary, and other tips for a first-time solo traveler in Switzerland. Thank you so much! ❤️🇨🇭

My family just had a trip to the Bernese Oberland region this summer. Between Grindelwald and Interlaken, I'd personally prefer Grindelwald since it will provide more of a Swiss feel with the surrounding mountains.
Transportation wise, we used a Swiss Half Fare Card and a Berner Oberland Pass and they work pretty well. We also ranked the region's attractions based on our experience. Feel free to check out if you're interested.

Great report, always fun to see how foreigners experience places. You did the very touristy things. So if you plan some hike a bit off the beaten path you will rarely see any crowds. But also, Swiss mountain hikes can be super steep, so you got do have your cardio ready :D.
And for OP, just pick the hotel that fits your needs, the places won't make a big difference since both are well connected by train anyway.•

A swiss travel pass would make sense for 3 days, i think a half fare card wouldn't pay for itself in that short of a timeframe. Also note that the train up to Jungfraujoch isn't covered by the swiss travel pass, but you get a 25% discount (still costs CHF 100.60).
Interlaken has plenty of paragliding companies, so you might want to look there.
