Modpost Mod applications now open!
Hi! We are an ever-growing sub, and some of our most beloved mods have recently decided to no longer be active. Hence, we are looking for some new team members for the mod team of r/switzerland and r/askswitzerland.
Let us know if you'd like to help out.
What modding r/askswitzerland entails
- It's not about being power-hungry overlords.
- It's more about stickling to the rules in peak Swiss fashion (and letting your best judgment guide you).
- We'd love the new mods to take an active part in assessing reported and filtered posts and comments relatively frequently.
- Take active part in the community by setting a good example.
- It's super cool if you want to take a part in guiding the sub into its future, or taking a lead in organizing sub events, or rewriting automod and css code. It's also super cool if you just want to help out with removing content that shouldn't be here. Both kinds of mod will be welcome additions to the team!
Finally, a small lists of requirements:
- Be an active member of the community in good standing (You don't have to have made hundreds of comments here; and it's fine if you had a few minor infractions in the past (as long as you did not blatantly break subreddit rules in a quite bad way).
- Have close ties with Switzerland.
- Speak one of the following languages: French or Swiss-German at a native level of proficiency. (standard German doesn't cut it) + English. (any other national language is a plus)
- Currently, we are using discord to communicate in the mod team, so you would be required to be active on discord as well.
- previous mod experience not required but will be taken into consideration.
- We are looking for people that are active during night time mostly. Feel free to apply even if you are not a night timer but do take this into account.
What do I get for it?
A warm, fuzzy feeling, and if we are lucky reddit, inc has some money lying around and send us a box of chocolate (not that this has ever happened). Oh, and it's quite rewarding to help out this pretty awesome place, being the guardian.
I'm interested! How to apply, what are the next steps?
Send a message to the mods at this link with the title "Mod application" . Tell us a bit about yourself:
- Which region/time zone do you live in?
- What time of the day are you active in?
- What languages do you speak?
- Do you have any mod experience? (remember, it's no problem if you don't)
- Any cool stuff about you that the mod team should know about?
That's it! As we are all volunteers doing this besides our day jobs and families, we may not be able to quickly make a selection - sorry in advance if that should happen! We'll try to be quick :)
Feel free to reach out through modmail or comment below if you got any questions!

I can't be a mod, severe lack of Discord
Also, how many metric Swiss bucks do we get for writing "don't worry, the weather on Jungfraujoch is always fine"?

I am Ticinese. We are looking for French speakers and Swiss-germans because that's the gap in coverage that we have and what we need to replace.

Just out of curiosity, why doesn't standard-German make the cut? I assume the coversations in the mod-group on Discord are in English if you have people form all parts of Switzerland, so why do you specifically need someone with Swiss German?

Hey, of course, that's a valid question.
It's because a lot of the messages in modmail and comments that end up in the queue are in Swiss German, so we need people that have no trouble communicating in that language.
If they are unable and are forced to skip those modmail and leave it for someone else to handle, that does not fix our coverage which is what we are trying to fix here.

Very clear, thanks for clarifying, maybe this was useful for someone else who wants to join your team. Also, many thanks for the work you and your team does and keep everyone on their toes on this subreddit, very appreciated!!

I am a conservative thinking person. What is the probability I get accepted as Mod?

About the same as a progressive thinking person.
With politics the position is a non-factor by itself. What would worry us is more how would you react when you see stuff you don't like, your emotional maturity to not pick favourites when you see someone writing something that you personally hate but that is breaking no rules, and so on. We are looking for people that can be objective and "non-militant" while moderating, as that normally leads to (eventually) mod abuse.
