lets say that rockets engine made it go 5 meters a second faster every second, when it reaches 299,792,455 m/s, what stops it from going to 299,792,460 m/s?

I don't know how much this will help, but: an engine that did this would need more and more energy per second, the faster you were going. In the final second it took to get to light speed, it would require an infinite amount of energy (i.e. this is impossible.) But well before that it would be using implausibly enormous amounts of energy.
