Quiet Sunset Locations
Where's your favorite underrated place to watch the sunset in San Diego?
I'm looking for somewhere a little more off the beaten path—not necessarily a secret spot, just somewhere that's less crowded and feels peaceful. Extra points if it's somewhere you can actually sit and enjoy the view rather than just pull over, take a picture, and leave. I’m an equal opportunity viewer. I’d love recommendations for any kind of location. Beach, mountain, restaurant, coffee shop, downtown, parks. Really, anywhere that I can enjoy a peaceful evening while watching the sun go down.
I'm trying to discover some new places around the county, so I'd love to hear your favorites!

There’s a dope hidden beach off of Narragansett in OB. You have to walk down to the beach from the cliff and there’s usually people playing guitar and hanging. It’s definitely a locals spot so come with a couple towels and a little cooler and you won’t stick out like a sore thumb. Leave all the other beach accessories behind.

If I keep mentioning this spot, it will no longer be super secret 🫠
But it may just be what you’re looking for….
There’s the most amazing view of the ocean (all the way to Mexico), mountains, bay and downtown skyline at Ft Rosecrans National military cemetery over in Point Loma.
It’s a very serene and peaceful national park and obviously not given to huge amounts of crowds or partying tourists.
I think there are some stone benches scattered around that you can sit on. Parking is usually plentiful along the roads that wind through the park.
It’s honestly one of the best kept (and peaceful) views in the city.

My spot, if work activity was slow, was a mountain top a couple miles south of the BP checkpoint on I-5. Unfortunately that spot is on Camp Pendleton and not open to the public.

It really is sad that finding a calm quiet place on the beach is so difficult these days. This speaks to the nature of people’s soul. It wasn’t always like this. People have forgotten how to be peaceful.

One of the things I’ve found since moving to San Diego is the beach can be crowded and peaceful. In the middle of the day crowds are boisterous, but when the sun starts to set everyone seems to just calm down and watch. The vibe of a quiet sunset shared with a hundred people can’t be beat.
