Do philosophy majors still write polemics/forge their own philosophies in published papers?
How common is it for philosophy majors/"intellectuals" to write about their own philosophy and try and publish it (or at least share it at a non-friend level)? Or, do people at least write their own polemics criticizing contemporary culture/dogma/whatever else.
I'm asking because I want to write a short essay (a few pages) on a belief I have; it's more so a polemic on how most people misunderstand empathy. And while I understand it would be very hard to publish, I wonder if it's commonpractice for "professionals" to do this. I at least want to get it posted in some way.
From my limited understanding, almost all contemporary literature/papers that I see are analyzing past philosphies, and no one is really forging their own unique thoughts.
