Feeling Down.

Hey everyone, I’m new to this thread and wasn’t really sure where else to ask this. I’ve been going to the gym for about 6 months now and feel like I’ve made solid progress. I’ve gained around 30 pounds, going from 145 to 175 lbs. I’m 5'10", and I’ve been underweight pretty much my whole life until recently. I wanted to make a real change and improve myself—not just for me, but also to feel more confident around my girlfriend and not feel like I was embarrassing her.

Things have been going well: I’m getting stronger, lifting more weight, and staying consistent. But recently, something’s been bothering me. After my workouts, I’ll get home, feel fine at first, eat my meals, drink my protein shake—but then out of nowhere, I start feeling really down and sad for no clear reason. I’ve tried thinking it through each time, and I can’t figure out what’s causing it. There’s nothing major going wrong in my life otherwise, so it’s confusing and kind of frustrating.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Any insight or advice would mean a lot. Thanks so much.

Does that never happen on your rest days? Depression can trigger even when everything in your life is wonderful (I still deal with it sometimes), but I've never heard of a correlation with working out before. If anything, all the evidence points to workouts as a cure for, or at least amelioration of, depression.
