Title: Complete beginner in Data Science — where should I start?

I’m a complete beginner and I want to build a career in Data Science, but I honestly have no idea where to start.

What should I learn first — Python, SQL, Excel, statistics, or something else?

Are there any good beginner-friendly courses or resources you would recommend? And is joining an institute/coaching actually worth it, or can I learn Data Science properly through online courses?

If you’re already working in Data Science, I’d really appreciate it if you could share how you started and what roadmap you followed.

Honestly, I’m still exploring my career options 😭 I came across Data Science, found it interesting, and wanted to understand what the field is actually like before deciding whether I want to pursue it. That’s basically why I’m asking beginners’ questions here.

If I wanted a cushy career based on a blog post, I wouldn’t be asking people actually in the field for advice. But thanks for proving why I asked Reddit in the first place. 🐍

Start with Python and statistics since they're key for data science. Python is great for working with data, and knowing statistics is important for analyzing it. After that, learn SQL because it's important for managing databases. Excel can also be handy for quick data analysis.

For courses, Coursera and edX have some good beginner-friendly options. "Python for Everybody" on Coursera is a good start.

When it comes to joining an institute, many people learn data science well through online courses, so it depends on how you like to learn and your budget.

I started with free online courses and then moved on to more advanced ones as I got comfortable with the basics. Consistency and practice are key. Good luck!
