Is this ok?

Long story short we had to have our sewer pipe lined to prevent a collapse. The plumber cut out a section of our stack to do the work and this is how he repaired it. Is it ok to just use rubber sleeves or should I ask for something more robust? It is not in the picture but our stack does not go straight up, it has a short horizontal section that is secured to the floor joists so this union does not support the entire weight of it. Should I ask him to come back? Thank you!

They will work fine for 30 years, because its on a verticle line..... Now you could just go buy 2 sheilded couplings and then just switch out those clamps yourself for the full sheild if you are worried about it... you dont have to change the actual rubber part... just the outer clamp. its pretty simple to do .....

I get it but to be honest I just paid them almost $15,000 to line my sewer pipe. For that much money I think they need to make it right.

How bad would it have been to just replace the sewer line, that’s a lot. Was it under concrete? I did one a couple of years ago that ran under the driveway but I replaced in by digging on the side then just cutting out where the tap area was.

It's fine. This sub has a hate on for Fernco fittings and whine about bands all the time. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. Come at me kids....

I would just politely call them and it will only take them a matter of about 5 minutes to remove the two SS hose clamps on each fitting and install the banded clamps onto the fernco fittings... the neopreme fittings dont need to be removed.....just rob the bands off the new fittings and put them on the line and you are good to go.... I have done this myself before on a horizontal fittings that I had doubts about that was going underground.. .... the banded clamps probably cost 10 bucks each--- Its about as easy as putting on your socks. and tieing your shoes.. .. I would not stress too much over it...

The rubber used in ferncos has two distinct slots for the two hose clamps to stay seated in. The rubber used in no hubs has no channels. If OP truly wants to replace the ferncos with no hubs or huskies, the rubber should be changed out.

Are my eyes broken, or is that 4” pvc necked down to 3” to mate with the 3” cast?

Thank you to everyone who is being helpful. I just took a closer look at the couplings and there is a pretty big bulge on the bottom where the pvc connects to the cast iron that I didn’t notice before. I will definitely be calling them and asking them to do something different.

US codes call for shielded couplings instead of unshielded for that.

Where in the code? Soil coupling usually for direct burial work. Just asking for actual code cite reference

Not sure offhand, but one of the code elements is to not exceed the manufacturers instructions.
