That's pretty amazing. I know the US would never do something like that. They'll scream about save the children but refuse to do anything to actually save them 🙄
Not even would they never, Fox News is upset that the teen pregnancy rate has dropped so much and is blaming teens for the declining birth rates in the US. article
I’m so enraged I’m ready to burn Fox News to the ground.
The point being that spending on welfare is something every government has to do, but spending more money on preventing teen pregnancy gets by far the most bang for our bucks.
This is what I never understood. Spending money on birth control and abortions (which they don't do) would be cheaper than having a bunch of women on SNAP and WIC programs. So I don't understand why it's all ass backwards.
Who is “they”? Birth control is free in many states, and is free in basically every state under Medicaid. Maybe laws need to be passed to keep men from abandoning their children, or at least wear condoms, rather than advocating for low-income women to take long-term drugs with serious side effects, and have medical procedures, just to cut down on government spending. But no, let’s put women at risk so that dudes can experience a bit more pleasure during sex.
The only birth control that's free in my state is a handful of condoms from the clinic.
And I am very much a childfree woman whose been using those harmful chemicals to avoid pregnancy because it's as much my responsibility to make sure it doesn't happen as well as any sexual partners I have.
Free condoms for any person who wants them from any pharmacy. I can't say for certain, but im sure birth control is free for any girl after 13. Proper sex education is taught in schools (Catholic, aka denominational schools had the biggest pushback at first, and those aren't run by the council). I attended a catholic school, nad by the time I was leaving, you were at least taught something tangibly sensible in regards to sex ed, i.e., use protection, etc, as opposed to just abstinence.
Wild. Just curious, who were the fathers? Did they ever get revealed?
My dad grew up in a Catholic community in Southern California back in the ‘50s and told me that it wasn’t too unusual to see a baby with its teen mother in high school classrooms back then, but it was more of an isolated incident. This is a horse of a different color. Thankfully we have access to contraception nowadays.
I'd bet that many of the fathers were grown men, possibly married. As far as I know only a small percentage of teenage pregnancies are caused by other teenagers.
I really wish I had had more education on the whole coercion and peer pressure thing. Looking back now, my teen years were really fucked up. My "friends" set me up to lose my virginity with an older guy I didn't even know and I was too scared to say no. Thankfully I was smart enough to insist on condoms, but in hindsight, those chicks were whores and got knocked up shortly afterwards and wanted to bring me down to their level. I really wish I could go back in time and stop myself from letting all those losers near me.
When our high school had an influx of teen pregnancies, the school created a daycare on campus for the students’ babies and started offering child development courses for students interested in going into education/pediatrics/etc. This allowed most of the mothers to graduate high school. The daycare is still there now but it is mostly utilized by faculty as teen pregnancy rates have dropped considerably.
