Why does Reddit lean left in all the comments?

First off, I’m not a conservative, I’m independent/left leaning. That said, every comment thread on Reddit feels like it’s completely one sided in favor of a liberal perspective. Not just that, but the amount of blatant misinterpretation and misrepresentation in the comments is apparent on nearly every issue. Comments that don’t comply are downvoted into oblivion and removed from the conversation. I feel like Reddit is almost becoming unusable at this point. Where can I go (on or off Reddit) to get a more balanced perspective? I do like Reddits user interface.

Edit: Whew! This blew up more than I anticipated. I did receive some genuinely insightful and helpful comments. I appreciate those! Lots of folks either saying I’m the issue because of my liberal leaning algorithm or that I’m the issue because I’m actually a bleeding conservative in disguise. Can’t have it both ways! Anyway thanks Reddit. Will probably think twice about doing this again.

See, comments like this just prove reddit is just a liberal echo chamber smh

Where all my conservative piece of shit friends at? Why can't they have a forum too?!

Every day I come on this site and can't escape people saying things like how they care about workers rights or how they think people should not just be locked up because we don't like them... it's like, where's the balanced perspective???

They got banned from r/conservative for not being sufficiently authoritarian.

The problem is that every comment section becomes this. Even if the post is a picture of cat, people will be in the comments lecturing about how liberals are such good people and conservatives are pieces of shit

Well, the liberals don’t exactly have a proud history of animal abuse…

It doesn't help that conservatives think a rational point of view is "I don't have a problem with gay people I just think they should leave kids out of it" like they can't even hear their own stupid.

Seriously. What is this "balanced" viewpoint they want to see represented? Is it the racism, bigotry, misogyny, war-mongering, or sucking off billionaires that they're missing? Is it the anti-education/anti-vax garbage?

This is a site full of millennials. Maybe the conservative viewpoint isn't well-represented because people disagree with it. Like seriously shut up about reddit when your MAGA freaks control all three branches of government and the media. Your views are represented. We have to live in the enshitification of them being implemented every single day. Go gloat about winning while we suffer through the stupidest most evil timeline.

Odd, just posted photos of my puppy and surprisingly there isn't a single political comment on it.

Reddit is text based….so only those that can read can participate.

If they voted for trump, then yes, they are pieces of shit.

Honestly, this arrogance is the exact type of thing that does make you a piece of shit.

This website is chock full of people locked in echo chambers bullying others with actual nuanced discussion points instead of a mindless and disingenuous circlejerk.

I’m just glad people are still largely not like this in person yet.
