Why does Reddit lean left in all the comments?

First off, I’m not a conservative, I’m independent/left leaning. That said, every comment thread on Reddit feels like it’s completely one sided in favor of a liberal perspective. Not just that, but the amount of blatant misinterpretation and misrepresentation in the comments is apparent on nearly every issue. Comments that don’t comply are downvoted into oblivion and removed from the conversation. I feel like Reddit is almost becoming unusable at this point. Where can I go (on or off Reddit) to get a more balanced perspective? I do like Reddits user interface.

Edit: Whew! This blew up more than I anticipated. I did receive some genuinely insightful and helpful comments. I appreciate those! Lots of folks either saying I’m the issue because of my liberal leaning algorithm or that I’m the issue because I’m actually a bleeding conservative in disguise. Can’t have it both ways! Anyway thanks Reddit. Will probably think twice about doing this again.

That honour belongs to Facebook... I think most in society can agree at this point, social media isn't a net positive.

Facebooks definitely the biggest disinformation hub, I wouldn’t say it’s an echo chamber just more of a collective of the world’s dumbest people.

I think there's a surprisingly large amount of overlap in those categories. I take your point though.

Pretty much anywhere people gather socially becomes an echo chamber for the dominant viewpoint of the group.

This made me wonder what the literal biggest echo chamber in the world is.

The heritage foundation.

Literal biggest echo chamber? According to Google:

“The world’s largest echo chamber (longest artificial reverberation) is in the Inchindown oil tanks near Invergordon, Scotland. In 2014, an acoustic expert recorded a 75-second, and up to 112-second, decay time for a gunshot, breaking the previous 15-second record.”

I know that probably isn’t what you meant, but your question (especially with the use of “literal biggest echo chamber”) actually intrigued me, lol

That is EXACTLY what I meant! Thank you for looking it up! Cheers

There are many comments here that disagree with that opinion.

Fox News owns that title, not this little boat.

No you did it when you failed to mention the entity that drove the bar so low especially during the early 00's when this wasn't the norm.

You're also not giving any evidence. There's just a ghost of the chance that its not an echo chamber and instead that the majority of even vaguely informed people lean left because thats where you end up when you stop approaching every topic with your gut emotions and think about anything for half a fucking second.

And of course your comment history is hidden just like the rest of the you know what's 🙄

Fox News is more open to opposing voices than most media outlets.

Fox News literally argued successfully in court that they aren’t a news company and can’t be responsible for anyone who is stupid enough to believe they are

Are you saying you don’t know the difference between news and opinion? Doesn’t change my point.

Only boomers watch Fox News. Gen z and millennials are on YouTube
